My Lucky 13 for April TV
It’s hard to believe that another Spring has arrived, and we are that much closer to the end of yet another TV season on linear TV, but here we are.
There are plenty of TV options both on the major networks but also streaming where new or existing dramas are concerned whether they are coming to an end or just getting underway with a new season. Then there are the feature films both on the small screen and on streaming.
The following dramas are either coming to a close for the season (with one ending for good) or starting a new season:
The Pitt airs its season finale on April 10 on MAX;
Doctor Who is back for a new season on Disney+ on April 12;
The final episode (EVER) of 1923 will air on April 13 on Paramount+;
Leverage: Redemption is back with new episodes starting on April 17 on Amazon Prime; and,
The Wheel of Time will come to a close for the season on April 17 also on Amazon Prime.
Then out of the eight new TV shows set to debut in April, these are my top picks:
Pulse is the new medical drama, which focuses on a group of ER residents navigating medical crises and personal drama amid a divisive allegation at their Miami hospital, to debut on Netflix on April 3. Now, I typically am reticent to watch most, if not all, medical dramas – just a personal preference – but I will give this one at least a few episodes because of the cast, which includes Willa Fitzgerald, Justina Machado, Jessica Rothe, Colin Woodell, Nestor Carbonell and Jessie T. Usher.
North of North is a new comedy set to debut on April 10 on Netflix, which focuses on a young Inuk mother, who wants to build a new future for herself, but it won’t be easy in her small Arctic town where everyone knows your business. I am not a fan of nearly all TV comedies since the 1990’s (yes, for that long), but I will give this one a chance because of the more recognizable actors set to appear in the show, including Outlander’s Braeden Clarke, Beauty and the Beast’s Jay Ryan and 24’s Mary Lynn Rajskub co-star
Sherlock & Daughter is a new drama that will air at 9 PM on April 16 on CW. David Thewlis (of Harry Potter fame) plays the legendary detective, who learns he just MIGHT be a father to a young American girl, who he ends up working with to solve a global conspiracy. Dougray Scott (of Ever After fame) will play Moriarty.
Ransom Canyon will debut on Netflix on April 17 and stars Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly in a story about a stoic rancher and his long-time family friend who owns the local dancehall. The primary story is about three ranching families who are locked in a contest to control land and battling outside forces intent on destroying their way of life.
Lastly, there are a little over half a dozen made-for-TV movies set to air throughout April, and the following are the movies I’m most interested in watching:
The remainder of the Spring Into Love series of Hallmark Channel movies will air as follows:
Hearts Around the Table: Josh’s Third Serving on April 5 at 8 PM;
Hearts Around the Table: Kiki’s Fourth Ingredient on April 12 at 8 PM; and,
Journey to You on April 19 at 8 PM
And, lastly the action movie G20 will debut on Amazon Prime on April 10, starring Viola Davis as U.S. President Danielle Sutton, who must defend her family, fellow leaders and the world when the G20 summit in Cape Town, South Africa is taken over by terrorists.
Make sure to check out our full TV calendar, which will go live this Thursday.
