My Top Choices for February TV

By  |

February is just around the corner, and with that we’ve got some dramas coming to an end while new dramas are getting ready to debut. There are more made-for-TV movies set to debut and plenty of other programming options.

Out of all that is available to watch starting this weekend, here are my top choices:

COMING TO AN END

The following shows will be coming to an end next month, two of them for good:

The series finale of 9-1-1: Lone Star will air on FOX at 8 PM on February 3

The final episodes of the sixth and final season of Cobra Kai will get underway on February 13 on Netflix.

The season finale of Miss Scarlet will air on PBS on February 16 at 8 PM.

NEW DRAMAS TO WATCH

Out of the new dramas that will debut next month, I am most curious about the following:

The Hunting Party on NBC on February 3 at 10 PM.

This high-concept crime procedural is about a small team of investigators who are assembled to track down and capture the most dangerous killers our country has ever seen, all of whom have just escaped from a top-secret prison that’s not supposed to exist. The cast includes Melissa Roxburgh (Manifest), Sara Garcia (Ride), Nick Wechsler (Revenge and the original Roswell), Patrick Sabongui (The Flash) and Josh McKenzie (La Brea).

Zero Day on February 20 on Netflix.

Robert De Niro stars as respected former U.S. President George Mullen, who, as head of the Zero Day Commission, is charged with finding the perpetrators of a devastating cyber attack that has caused chaos around the country and thousands of fatalities. As disinformation runs rampant and the personal ambition of power brokers in technology, Wall Street and government collide, Mullen’s unwavering search for the truth forces him to confront his own dark secrets while risking all he holds dear. The ensemble cast includes Angela Bassett, Clark Gregg, Connie Britton, Dan Stevens, Gaby Hoffman, Jesse Plemons, Joan Allen, Lizzy Caplan and Matthew Modine.

Suits LA on NBC on February 23 at 9 PM.

Stephen Amell (Arrow) stars as Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York, has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. His firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive, he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives. All of this is going on while we slowly unravel the events that years ago led Ted to leave behind everything and everyone he loved. The series also stars Josh McDermitt (The Walking Dead), Bryan Greenberg (One Tree Hill) and Lex Scott Davis (Rebel).

NEW SEASONS TO ENJOY

The following shows will be back with new seasons throughout February:

Sweet Magnolias on February 6 on Netflix
Reacher on February 20 on Amazon Prime
1923 on February 23 on Paramount+

MOVIES, MOVIES, MOVIES

There are a “lucky” 13 movies airing in February. Of those, I am most interested in seeing the following:

This Time Next Year on February 10 on The Roku Channel. The story focuses on Minnie (Sophie Cookson from Kingsman: The Secret Service) and Quinn (Lucien Laviscount from Emily in Paris) who were born on the same day, in the same hospital, just one minute apart. Their lives may begin together, but the paths they take from there couldn’t drift further apart. Years later, fate brings Minnie and Quinn together again. Will they embrace the new beginning and take a chance on love?

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy on February 13 on Peacock. Renée Zellweger returns to the role that established a romantic-comedy heroine for the ages, as Bridget Jones, now a widowed single mother, she must juggle work, parenthood and romance. The cast includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Leo Woodall, Jim Broadbent, Gemma Jones, Isla Fisher, with Colin Firth and Hugh Grant.

La Dolce Villa on Netflix also on February 13. Scott Foley (Felicity and Scandal) stars as successful businessman Eric, who travels to Italy to stop his daydreaming daughter Olivia from blowing her life savings on restoring a crumbling villa she purchased for $1. Italy, however, has different plans for him as it delivers on its legendary promise of beauty, magic, and romance.

Lastly, the filmed version of the Broadway show Waitress: The Musical will start streaming on MAX on February 14. Based on the 2007 film, written and directed by the late Adrienne Shelly, the story focuses on Jenna Hunterson (Sara Bareilles, who created the music and lyrics), a baker and waitress in an abusive relationship with her husband, Earl. After Jenna unexpectedly becomes pregnant with Earl, she begins an affair with her obstetrician, Jim Pomatter. Looking for ways out of her troubles, and at the urging of her friends, she enters a pie baking contest, seeing its grand prize as her chance.
