CBS
My Top Picks for December TV
As 2024 comes to an end, there are a lot of holiday movies set to debut, TV dramas that will be coming to an end at least until their mid-season returns, some new dramas set to debut and more.
Out of the very lengthy list of TV options for December, I’ve tried to whittle down my list to just a little over a dozen movies or dramas that I most want to watch over the course of the last month of this year.
MOVIES, MOVIES, MOVIES
There are over 40 holiday-themed movies that will debut throughout the entire month of December, but out of all of those, I have chosen my top 3 simply because of its cast members:
* The Christmas Quest on the Hallmark Channel on December 1 at 8 PM, starring Lacey Chabert and Kristoffer Polaha;
* All I Need for Christmas on Hallmark Mystery on December 12 at 8 PM, starring Mallory Jansen and Dan Jeannotte; and,
* The Santa Class on Hallmark Channel on December 14 at 8 PM, starring Kimberley Sustad and Benjamin Ayres
And then there are two non-holiday-themed movies that will debut in December that are on the top of my list.
They are:
Carry-On on Netflix on December 13. In this action thriller, a mysterious traveler (Jason Bateman) blackmails Ethan Kopek (Taron Egerton), a young TSA officer, to let a dangerous package slip through security and onto a Christmas Day flight; and,
The Six Triple Eight also set to air on Netflix on December 20. Directed by Tyler Perry, and based on a 2019 World War II History magazine article by Kevin M. Hymel, this movie will focus on the contributions of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, an all-black and all-female battalion, in World War II. Kerry Washington, Sam Waterston, Susan Sarandon and Oprah Winfrey are just some of the cast of this movie.
WINTER FINALES
As the 2024-2025 TV season comes to an end before the holidays (and then, of course, will return at some point in the spring), the following finales are the ones that I am most interested in watching during December:
Tracker on CBS on December 1 at 9 PM
Mistletoe Murder on Hallmark+ on December 5 (this is actually this streaming show’s season finale)
Fire Country on CBS on December 13 at 9 PM
EVERYTHING ELSE
The remaining programs on my list of “Must Watch” this month include the following:
* The premiere of season six of Virgin River will FINALLY happen on Netflix on December 19;
* The third and final season of What If…? will air on Disney+ on December 22 and December 29;
* This year’s special Doctor Who: Joy to the World will debut on Disney+ on Christmas Day, finding the Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) traveling on his own now that Ruby Sunday has returned home. However, as is always the case when the Doctor is traveling solo, his solitude won’t last long. This Christmas special will see the Time Lord joined by a new friend: Bridgerton alum Nicola Coughlan will star as Joy; and, lastly,
* The Netflix drama Black Doves will debut on December 5. This British spy thriller will star Keira Knightley as Helen, a woman who begins a passionate affair that may endanger her secret identity when her lover becomes victim to London’s underworld and her employers send an old friend to protect her.
