Vice Presidential Debate Is Tonight

By  |

Tonight is yet another important night for our country as the Democratic, Tim Walz, and Republican, JD Vance, candidates for Vice President of the United States will debate live on CBS.

NOTE: Many other outlets as well will be covering the debate so please check your local listings.

Back in July I wrote the following piece entitled “Who Represents the Future of Our Country” and I will ask that same question to all of our readers.

Who represents the future of our country between these two candidates?

Depending on what side of the aisle you are on politically – or if you are even on a side, your choice after all – I want to ask, nee beg, everyone to please tune in to the debate tonight, as I firmly believe – as I have believed since late spring of this year, and even more so when President Biden dropped out of the race for the White House, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for President – that this election is more important than any other election in recent history.

I don’t need to ramble on – despite my column being known as Rueben’s Ramblings – as I think that my recent politically-themed articles have said pretty much where my loyalties lie. But for the few who haven’t read them, we need to back the one team who wants to move our country forward, who are looking toward the future for our betterment and actually care about the American people. The team who wants kids to get lunch at school, allow women the right to bodily autonomy, want to see the middle class succeed and for those with deep pockets to pay their fair share in taxes (something this wealthy “class” continually skirts around and gets away with paying far too less).

But, I am not here to tell you who to vote for – no I am not! But, I am here to urge our readers to get involved – at least for tonight – in determining the future of our country. As former First Lady Michelle Obama said at the Democratic National Convention, “Do something.” Even if that one something is just watching the debate. Then do one other something: make a plan to vote for the future of our country because all of our lives depend on that.

You can also see part of what I mean by the future of our country in my recent column entitled “The Island of Misfit Voters Can Save Our Democracy.”

Thanks for letting me step on my soapbox for one more week!
