Do You Remember?: Debris

By  |

About one year after the first anniversary of the COVID-19 nationwide lockdowns, NBC debuted the new sci-fi TV series Debris, which was created and co-executive produced by J. H. Wyman, who created previous “Do You Remember” series Almost Human and the 5-season cult favorite series Fringe.

Debris aired its pilot episode on March 1, 2021, running for only 13 episodes before it ended on May 24, 2021.

The series had a very unique premise – much like the other shows for which Wyman created. Debris of an alien spacecraft has been falling across Earth over the last six months. An international task force is formed to identify and collect these pieces because they are found to have unusual and often deadly effects on humans and their surroundings.

The show follows partners CIA operative Bryan Beneventi (Jonathan Tucker, best known for Westworld and Parenthood) and MI6 operative Finola Jones (Riann Steele from the BBC medical soap Holby City) as they track down these pieces. But there are also others who are seeking the pieces for themselves. The main cast also included Broadway vet Norbert Leo Butz as Beneventi’s handler and hip-hop artist Scroobius Pip as a member of Influx, the extremist group seeking to use the debris for unknown, nefarious purposes.

Some of the recurring characters in the show included Anjali Jay (Supergirl) as Finola’s handler; Sebastian Roche (Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries and The Originals) as another MI6 agent; veteran actor Tyrone Benskin as Finola’s scientist father and Thomas Cadrot (So Help Me Todd) as a team member alongside Finola and Bryan.

Among the guest stars who appeared in the short-lived series were:

Erin Karpluk (Being Erica)
Kheon Clakre (Skymed)
Benjamin Hollingsworth (Virgin River)
David Alpay (The Vampire Diaries)
Humberly Gonzalez (Ginny & Georgia)
Steve Bacic (Virgin River and countless Hallmark movies)
John Noble (Fringe)

The series was given a greenlight for production in January 2020 with the majority of the pilot being filmed before the pandemic lockdowns took place, but then the rest of the first season was filmed from November of 2020 through April of 2021 primarily in Vancouver.

Debris was one of the few new series airing on TV during a very complicated time in the world, averaging 2.8 million viewers per week, garnering generally favorable reviews from critics. But, the ratings weren’t enough to keep it around for a second season.

Unfortunately, the show is currently not available on any streaming service nor on NBC for fans to watch or rewatch.

You can, however, watch the trailer for Debris below:
