My Top Choices for August TV

By  |

As the final month of summer is nearly upon, and despite the strikes by the writers and actors, there are still plenty of viewing options to watch throughout the month of August.

What follows are my top choices for what I am most anxious to see on TV in August:

FINALES

The shows that will be airing their finales next month include:

Hijack on Apple TV+ on August 2
Outlander on Starz on August 11 at 8 PM (until the latter half of the season returns in 2024)
The Summer I Turned Pretty on Amazon on August 18
Justified: City Primeval on FX on August 29 at 10 PM

SMALL SCREEN MOVIES

There are one dozen movies getting ready to debut in August. Here are my top picks:

Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman herself) will star in the Netflix action flick Heart of Stone on August 11. She plays secret agent Rachel Stone, who is a member of an elusive and mysterious group of elite spies known as the Charter, the most highly trained agents working together to keep peace in a turbulent world. To achieve their lofty aims, those agents rely on a one-of-a-kind asset called the Heart.

The Flash star Grant Gustin and Pretty Little Liars alum Lucy Hale are in the Freevee movie Puppy Love on August 18. After a disastrous first date, wild-child Nicole and socially-anxious Max vow to lose each other’s numbers until they learn that their dogs find a love match, and now puppies are on the way. The hilariously mismatched Nicole and Max are forced to become responsible co-parents, but may end up finding love themselves.

The Hallmark Movies & Mysteries movie The More Love Grows on August 18 at 9 PM, starring Rachel Boston and Warren Christie, who are brought together by a stray dog.

NEW SHOWS

There are 8 new dramas that will be debuting in August, and these are the ones that I most want to see:

The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart on Amazon on August 4, starring The Walking Dead and The 100 alum Alycia Debnam-Carey and the one and only Sigourney Weaver.

The Winter King on MGM+ on August 20 at 9 PM, starring Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. alum Iain De Caestecker as the Arthur Pendragon in a new period piece adaptation of the legendary warrior and leader.

Rosario Dawson is back as Ahsoka in the Disney+ series on August 23 that finds the title character investigating an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.

Our full August calendar, sans comedies and reality, will be live on Friday. Please check it out and share with us what shows and movies you are most anxious to watch throughout August.
