Throwback Tuesday: What I Am Thankful For This Year

By  |

For this Thanksgiving, I wanted to take a look back at an article I wrote almost 10 years ago, showing what I was thankful for that year.

While things have changed in terms of ownership at the CW that I would never have seen coming when this article was written and Castle has been gone for six (SIX!) seasons now and there has been quite the reversal at the Hallmark Channel (in my opinion for the better) and, lastly, my stance on Comic Con is quite radical especially since the pandemic, these were the four “things” that I was most thankful for in 2013.

What are you thankful for this year?

Without further ado, here is my thankful for list from nine years ago:

Thanksgiving is only a few days away and as the staff at NiceGirlsTV has been doing over the course of the month, we’ve been posting the “things” for which we are all thankful for this year. And given our love for all things TV, I just had to elaborate on the list, focusing on the rest of my list of TV items for which I am thankful.

1. Castle – This is one of my “must-watch” appointment shows that I never miss no matter what and I am so thankful that ABC has been supportive of the series, its cast and ongoing storylines. My week would not be complete without my fill of Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic and the entire cast.

NOTE: Castle has actually been on my “thankful for” list for the last few years now and I hope it can remain on the list for at least a few more years. You hear that the powers that be at ABC?!

2. The CW – Yes, the shows primarily consist of teenagers in various stages of dire consequences (for the most part); but damn they are all so good looking, right? I mean how great is it that you can watch Wilson Bethel, Scott Porter and Cress Williams on Hart of Dixie, Jay Ryan on Beauty And the Beast, Stephen Amell, Colton Haynes and David Ramsey on Arrow, Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins on Supernatural, Shane West on Nikita and, of course, Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley on The Vampire Diaries. And, this fall we were introduced to the likes of Luke Mitchell and Robbie Amell (Stephen’s cousin) on The Tomorrow People, even more of Joseph Morgan and Daniel Gillies on The Originals, Torrance Coombs and Toby Regbo on Reign and then in mid-season Matt Lanter on Star-Crossed and Henry Ian Cusick on The 100. Be still our beating hearts!!

3. The Hallmark Channel – I personally think this is a very fun channel to watch because of all the made-for-TV movies the cabler airs all year long (especially the holiday films). Yes, most of the films are hocky and even a little predictable at times; but they always have a sweet ending that leaves the viewer feeling uplifted. And, now the network is getting into original scripted programming with Cedar Cove and next year’s When Calls the Heart as well as at least 2 or 3 other potential back-door pilots of movies that could become series. So much good to look forward to.

4. Comic Con – Okay so yeah the event has reached its maximum capacity over the last few years, driving attendees crazy with all the line insanity, the over crowdedness of the Gaslamp District in San Diego (and on and on with the problems, complaints, etc.). But that all being said, how AWESOME is it to be able to attend each year, seeing all of the celebrities in person, seeing all of the screenings, checking out the exhibit hall and everything else that goes on during the four-plus days of the con? The event takes its toll on everyone in different ways, but those who have gone; can you honestly admit that you would like missing out on all that Comic Con has to offer? I know I wouldn’t.

So, these are my top things to be thankful for this year. What are you most thankful for this year? Please share.
