Blood & Treasure: Observations From “The Lost City of Sana”
The 8th episode of the long-awaited second season of Blood & Treasure aired on Paramount+ on Sunday night, moving forward with the story of Danny McNamara and Lexi Vaziri as they are on the hunt for the latest antiquity that is also desired by a dangerous terrorist and his vicious team of killers.
Episode eight found Danny and Lexi along with Daddy McNamara trying to stay ahead of the General and his men as well as bandits after their helicopter crashed in Laos while Chuck and Kate try to learn more about that shadow group and Simon attempts to stay on the “good side” of the Great Khan.
The synopsis for the 8th episode, entitled “The Lost City of Sana,” is “After crash-landing in the jungles of Laos, Lexi is gravely injured, leaving Danny and Patrick in a rush to find refuge. Meanwhile, Chuck uncovers new information on the relationship between the Vatican and the CIA.”
The Good:
It was great to see Danny and his dad work together to help an injured Lexi (despite their continuous bickering), and it was even more moving to finally see them come to terms with their difficult past and especially their tearful farewell. Daddy McNamara doesn’t have much time left because of his cancer, and Danny gave him the opportunity to live out the rest of his life in Shangri-La, the place in Laos where he did so much good during the Vietnam War.
Chuck really is a bad liar, and he should have just come clean with that mentor of Father Alonzo’s, but his and Kate’s rouse was exposed pretty quickly; and while they were told to leave by that other priest, I’m glad that Chuck went back to get the truth out of that man. It would seem that the Vatican was trying to eradicate communism, and their delusional belief that by using Doctor Orloff’s scientific experiments to eliminate the Mongolian people was horrible. Learning that Sister Victoria figured out what was actually happening, causing her to put a stop to it all, which brought about her being named a Saint at least provides another clue; but where is all of this going to lead?
The Bad:
Not only did the trio have the General and his men on their trail but they also had heavily armed bandits following them. What’s worse is both “teams” converged and joined together to go after Danny, his dad and the injured Lexi.
I’m still not a fan of Kate, but she’s the only tie-in right now for Chuck to be involved in the case of trying to find out why the Vatican and the CIA were working together back in the day.
Then there is the trick that the Great Khan pulled on Simon after sending the criminal off to get a White Hat hacker to help get access to the CIA. We know the Great Khan is a bad guy, but this was severely under-handed. His men eliminated the hacker who met with Simon and all the other hackers she brought in on that fake “mission.”
It’s just a little too convenient that Daddy McNamara found those monks, who were able to help Lexi with her injuries. That was just a little preposterous.
Additional Thoughts:
Father Alonso was murdered?! What the hell?! I didn’t see that coming. And Chuck is going to go back to the Vatican and put himself on the line now. I’m even more worried about him now.
Make sure to tune in to Paramount+ next Sunday, September 4 for the next new episode.
