A Million Little Things Roundtable: “out of hiding”
Here is the official synopsis for this week’s penultimate episode (season 4, episode 19) of A Million Little Things entitled “out of hiding”:
Maggie receives some much-needed support from an unexpected source, Katherine grapples with her history with Shanice and her future with Greta; Rome faces off with his childhood bully and Sophie uncovers new information about Kai’s relationship with Peter.
Nice Girls Cay and Rueben share their thoughts on this episode [spoiler alert]:
Cay:
Ooh, the Peter plotline just got a bit more interesting again! Having some degree of mystery was what drew me to this show in the first place, so I appreciated Sophie’s Nancy Drew act (and the fact that she’s no longer sulking). So Peter had an affair with Kai and then basically dumped her the night that he died. And we now have a witness who places Anna with him that night, so she lied to not only the cops, but also to Eddie. I was a bit unclear when the affair with Kai started – could Anna have killed him because she found out that not only was he assaulting his students, but he was also cheating on her in a much more traditional way?
Meanwhile, we’ve got the horny Eddie and Anna plotline (ugh!). It seems that Eddie is being set up for a really big fall if indeed Anna did kill Peter. I like Eddie, I like that he is in a good place. But Anna seems destined to ruin all of that for him!
Speaking of ruining… I’m honestly not sure what I hope to happen with Katherine’s wacky love trapezoid. I think Shanice is a more interesting storyline than Greta (admittedly, Notting Hill is one of my favorite movies of all time, so I do love the “celebrity falls in love with normal person” plot). I just feel bad for Theo, as it seems like both of his parents are about to find themselves alone and grieving. They wouldn’t use this as a means to get Eddie and Katherine back together now that they’ve both matured a bit, would they?
Vali doesn’t seem particularly likeable! And I also don’t like that she seems to be getting between him and Rome and Regina, even if that isn’t entirely unexpected for a teenage foster kid with his potential first love. And what’s going on with Yale? Did Vali have anything to do with his decision not to go? Can’t Rome, Regina, and Tyrell be happy for like a few weeks?
As if things aren’t interesting at home, now Rome is potentially getting fired for supporting Maddox? Maybe he’ll finally really stand up to Maddox’s father and save his job? It seems unlikely to put him into the school only to fire him a few episodes later. Unless it’s a springboard to another related career move for him?
I’m still meh on the Gary-Maggie baby plot. I find myself not caring what happens one way or the other.
The next episode is the season finale. I wonder if they will try to wrap up some loose ends, or cliffhang it? The show was just renewed this week and it was “on the bubble” previously, so they probably didn’t know whether it would be the season or series finale when it was written.

Rueben:
I think we suspected there was more to the Peter storyline where Anna is concerned, but now we have proof, as long as we believe that what Kai saw is true. We don’t know this character that well; and granted she wouldn’t have any reason to lie to Sophie about what she saw when she went to Peter’s house. But then again, what do we really know about her true character. This is a good mystery, for sure, but to toss it in so late in the season? I just have to wonder where things will go from here. One thing is for sure, whatever Anna did, or didn’t do, is going to hurt Eddie.
Katherine’s love life is just all over the place. I’ve not been a fan of Greta since she was introduced, not because she isn’t an interesting character, but more so that the writers just seemed to throw everything at Katherine in the hopes that something would stick, and that – to me – is just slopping writing. Perhaps she and Greta do need to be apart, and Katherine needs to have her freedom to explore a potential relationship with Shanice. I cannot in anyway see Katherine and Eddie getting back together – yet again.
I’m peeved at Tyrell for ditching the Yale mixer; I’m peeved at Vali for being so blunt with Regina about the whole “foster mom” thing and I’m upset for Regina that she’s got to deal with all of this. I agree that the writers just need to let Rome, Regina and Tyrell to be happy for at least a little while. Hopefully Regina can get to the bottom of what’s really going on with Tyrell. Why is it that he can’t talk to Regina (or Rome) about what he really wants to do?
I’m really not interested in the whole baby storyline for Maggie and Gary either. Nor am I overly enthusiastic about the Kai and Sophie storyline except in how it ties to Anna and Eddie.
Given that we now know that the show just got renewed for a 5th season, I’m really curious how the season finale will play out. I’m sure they had it all filmed already, and it would be nearly impossible to alter or change it before it airs next week so I really wonder what will happen.
