A Million Little Things Roundtable: “fingers crossed”

By  |

Here is the official synopsis for this week’s episode (season 4, episode 15) of A Million Little Things entitled “fingers crossed”:

The gang gathers for a fun and festive game night as a means to distract Gary from dwelling on a heavy situation.

Nice Girls Cay and Rueben share their thoughts on this episode [spoiler alert]:

Cay:

First things first, the several week time jump here made me feel like I had missed an episode or something! Yeah, they tried to use the characters to fill in the gaps, but it still felt off.

Are we to assume that there were no repercussions of Katherine stealing that plaque and breaking that display case at her reunion? I guess that isn’t much of a shocker seeing as Gary helped beat Peter nearly to death and has had no legal repercussions, either.

I wasn’t surprised that Gary’s cancer scare was just that – a scare. It never felt real, maybe because of the jump? Or maybe because the medical aspects just felt off to me? (for some reason this stuff drives me nuts in shows that are supposed to be somewhat realistic).  All of them sitting around waiting for him to get out of surgery and reminiscing about how they had all sat in the hospital waiting on each other just brought more attention to how improbable it seems that so many people would go to the hospital and wait while one of them is treated. I just don’t think people do that outside of TV!

That game night was so awkward it was painful to watch. So much of the episode made me feel really embarrassed for various characters, and not in a good way. Anna, oh Anna, why can we not be done with you? Eddie is finally in a good place and gets his 1 year chip and now we’re going to do the “Anna is drinking too much” plot? Please, no! I wonder where things are going with him and Katherine? Would they actually get rid of Anna and Greta and put them back together? Or are they trying to use it to create more drama between both couples?

So, Sophie forgives Gary, mostly because she feels bad for him.  I prefer happy Sophie to brooding mad Sophie, so that’s an improvement, but meh. How the rest of the gang were treating Gary also felt off. I’m not sure if it was supposed to be touching, or funny or what, but that’s certainly not how anyone in my social circle has treated any others who have been diagnosed with cancer or similar.

What I did like were the scenes between Regina and her mother and Dad. It’s sad that they didn’t make any progress in several weeks, but I’m glad that they all finally talked. I think they should go to family therapy together – it could be both heartwarming and funny. I wonder if they will eventually get them back together? They are both single now…

Next week’s preview looks like it could get interesting! I guess we’ll see!

Rueben:

I put off watching this episode until nearly the last moment because I’ve just been feeling so detached from the show pretty much all season. And, most of this episode didn’t help with that feeling.

Game night was absolutely ridiculous to me – just all of it was painful to watch. Anna was trying too hard and compensating with drinking too much. They were all treating Gary with kid gloves too much. Then Sophia showing up because Danny went to her concert to tell him about the cancer scare. That’s what it takes to get her head to turn back around, really? I’m so over Sophia being an over-amped teenager, I’m tired of Anna, I’m even tired of the Katherine and Greta storyline except for the fact that Greta gave her a new perspective on how she handled things with Eddie during game night.

I enjoyed the hug moment between Rome and Gary, but then Gary had to make it weird. I admired that Regina went to her Dad to talk to him about what happened to her and to her mother, and have Regina’s parents talk it out, that was necessary. But that’s about it.

I was pleased to hear that it was just a scare for Gary, but now what? Will they start trying to start a family now? A baby or move in together… that seems to be the options they are considering.

For me, I think I’ll be happy when this season is over, and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to continue with the show.
