A Million Little Things Roundtable: “fresh start”

By  |

Here is the official synopsis for this week’s episode (season 4, episode 13) of A Million Little Things entitled “fresh start”:

Maggie’s radio show is a proven success, yet she faces an uphill battle when her beliefs do not align with the station owners. Old wounds are reopened when Rome visits his old prep school and Katherine helps Eddie navigate the next step in his relationship with Anna.

Nice Girls Cay and Rueben share their thoughts on this episode [spoiler alert]:

Rueben:

So let’s get this straight: Delilah is pissed that Danny left France to go back to Boston to get Milo back, and rather than making him go back to France, she lets him stay for spring break. And then Danny goes right out to win Milo back, and they seemingly get back together until Milo hears Gary dissing him, then Danny gets upset with Gary and eventually Danny and Gary mend fences, and what Danny will just give Milo a second chance and everything is good?! I’m just so over this whole teen drama.

How quickly things can change for Maggie where the station owner is concerned. First, she gets a fancy new car from him for having the highest rated show, and then because of one caller and the subject matter of her call, he lashes out because he – and most of the audience – is conservative. Sure abortion is a hot button topic, but as Maggie said it isn’t a political issue, it’s personal. I was impressed with how Maggie handled the whole situation, and even how Jane handled the situation despite the fact the station owner fired her. The silver lining in all of that was the fact Nick asked her to go away with him now that they won’t be working together.

As each scene played out between Regina and her dad, I was somewhat cringing as it was predictable what he was going to do, but at least he made things up to Regina in the end with the food truck [although that was predictable too, at least to me it was]. I just hope that they can keep their relationship on a good track – especially given their past history – and that we’ll get to see more of Regina and Valerie as they build the catering business.

Then there is the whole Eddie and Anna spending the night together. I think we both agree that it’s just too strange to have them together as a couple. Sure, I want Eddie to be happy, but I think she’s the wrong woman for that.

Seeing Rome back at his prep school was interested especially given the fact his former classmate said he wanted Rome to screen his documentary. It’s great that he can show the documentary at the school, but his intention to slam former teacher now Dean Dennings for how he treated Rome in the past is so NOT a good idea. I hope that Tyrell can convince him to not do that.

And how about Maggie wanting to have a baby? Given the clip that was shown for the next episode, it would seem that Gary might not be on board with that idea just yet. I’m not sure how I feel about that since they are so early in rekindling their romance.

Cay:

Yeah, I was so over the teen drama before it started as well. Although letting Danny stay and visit for a few days instead of immediately flying home seems reasonable since the fare will cost the same anyway and he’s been gone a while. There has to be other guys to date in France, there has to be. Also, even horny teenagers can survive *not* dating for a while. Danny boy needs to get himself some hobbies.

Wasn’t Nick all hot and heavy with the hair and makeup woman who fixed Maggie up for her birthday party? I was doing my best to ignore them both, so maybe I’ve forgotten that they had a falling out or maybe she was just conveniently “disappeared” so that Nick and Jane could have their moment? I really don’t get the station owner firing Jane. That seems like an excuse to get rid of her rather than a logical response to what Maggie said. It also seems highly unlikely that nothing else that would be triggering to a middle-aged white conservative male has come up on her show before?

The best part of the show and maybe the only redeemable thing of Eddie and Anna relationship was his “sex talk” with Katherine. It was good to see him ask the question that you would expect someone in his position to ask and I thought that Katherine’s answer was great. And their little metaphor about her “playing for home team” and him being “a tourist with a guide book” was both amusing and endearing. So, good for Katherine and good for Eddie and bad for us that Anna doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon.

I really feel for Rome and all he’s been through, but it is hard to imagine that his plan to publically go after his old school’s dean could end in any way but a horrible one. It is his depression or his meds that he doesn’t realize how bad an idea that is? Tyrell is 18 and can see the issues immediately, and he’s also had the experience of growing up as a black man in America. Maybe worse for him in many ways as the son of an undocumented immigrant.

TPTB better not let Regina’s business fail again! (Funny how they never mention anymore that it failed because of the pandemic – it’s like they just erased it from the show timeline along with the gratutious Target plugs). Here’s hoping she can keep from killing her dad!

Maybe Maggie is finally figuring herself out and up until now she just didn’t know what she wanted? Or maybe she’s really lost it this time, but she dumps Cam, jumps back in with Gary, and suddenly her maternal clock is striking 12? I guess her 30th birthday might have helped that along, but at this point I’d much prefer her to be having a baby with Cam than doing the will they-won’t they with Gary, now with a potential baby in the mix. I hated that plotline when it was with Darcy and like it no better now with Maggie!
