Do You Remember: The Village
The NBC drama series The Village debuted on March 19, 2019, focusing on the residents of an apartment building in Brooklyn where the people who resided in that building built a bonded family of friends and neighbors.
The main cast included:
Michaela McManus (SEAL Team and You), who played Sarah Campbell, a nurse who worked at a nursing home and was the mom of Katie;
Grace Van Dien (Stranger Things), who played Katie Campbell, Sarah’s teen-age daughter, who was revealed to be pregnant in the pilot episode;
Warren Christie (Batwoman and the Hallmark Channel movie Crashing Through the Snow), who played Nick Porter, a former Army Ranger who lost his right leg in Afghanistan. He and Sarah were teenage lovers, and parents of Katie – although only Sarah knew that truth;
Frankie Faison (The Wire), who played Ron Davis, the super of The Village apartment building and the owner of a bar allied Smalls;
Lorraine Toussaint (The Equalizer), who played Patricia Davis, Ron’s wife who was also a social worker;
Moran Atias (The Resident and Tyrant), who played Ava Behzadi, an Iranian refugee;
Jerod Haynes (Project Blue Book and Good Girls), who played Ben Jones, a police officer;
Dominic Chianese (The Sopranos), who played Enzo Napolitano; and,
Daren Kagasoff (The Secret Life of the American Teenager), who played Gabe Napolitano, Enzo’s grandson and a law student.
NOTE: Nick owned a decommissioned military dog named Jedi who also lost a leg.
The show aired all 10 episodes from its debut season in order without any interruptions. The show averaged about 4.1 million viewers overall during its one-season run. Rotten Tomatoes consensus stated the show “commendably attempted to affirm the bonds between neighbors in an urban community, but the (show’s) overeagerness to wring tears from viewers will most likely only prompt them to roll their eyes.” The final episode aired on May 21, 2019, and NBC pulled the plug on the series on May 30, 2019.
Mike Daniels created the series. He has worked on a handful of other short-lived series, including Bluff City Law, The Brave, Taken, Shades of Blue and Pan Am. He also includes Sons of Anarchy, The Vampire Diaries and One Tree Hill as part of his resume.
Among the guest stars featured in the show included actor-director Mario Van Peebles, Amy Carlson (Blue Bloods), Austin Nichols (One Tree Hill), Will Chase (Nashville and Smash) and Paul Ben-Victor (The Invisible Man and In Plain Sight).
