Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist: “Zoey’s Extraordinary Session”
Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist‘s aired a new episode from its second season this week. Let’s first find out what this episode was about.
Here is a synopsis for this week’s episode entitled “Zoey’s Extraordinary Session:”
In therapy, Zoey reflects back on her unexpectedly profound first day working at SPRQPoint.
Join Nice Girls Roz, Rueben, and Karen as they share their thoughts on this latest, new episode of the second season [spoiler alert]:
Karen:
I was blown away by this episode. First of all, we had Peter Gallagher back for this one, and we get to see a lot of the characters’ backstories. Then we got to see how Zoey crossed paths with all of our main characters, and they were so charming! Lastly, having music be a part of the episode while not being “heartsongs” was the icing on the cake.
Daniel Michael Davis has always been a wack-job, and it’s somehow comforting. The only thing that rubbed me the wrong way was his parting line. He thinks they ought to have ONE female coder. I mean… I can’t even with that. I’m thoroughly disappointed with the lack of female representation that we had been teased with at the start of S2.
Leif with a man-bun. We have to discuss that, right? He already had a love of sweater-vests, so at least we knew it was “our” Leif. And I’m a little glad that Max wasn’t the best person ever right off the bat. It would’ve rung untrue. He’s so sarcastic and sharp that clicking with Zoey right away would’ve been hard to see. And her suit was AMAZING.
Oscar Nuñez, while he didn’t have a huge presence in this one, was effective where he appeared.
I honestly don’t have much more than that – just that it was super entertaining and I’m super sad that next week is the finale.
Rueben:
I could’t agree more, Karen. This was a terrific episode, giving us so much. It was so great to see Peter Gallagher back as Zoey’s dad. I know I had a tear (or two, okay a lot) in my eyes just seeing him especially how great he was with Zoey over her first day at SPRQ Point and, of course, with her concerns over Maggie’s health scare.
It was also very fun seeing how Zoey got her job. Thank you Max for fighting for Zoey to get one of the two spots even though he actually was the second pick. Their “meet bad” (rather than meet cute) was so funny and actually seemed so appropriate given how close they have been; it couldn’t have been “perfect” from the beginning. Yes, Karen, that man-bun. OMG, I nearly screamed “Noooo!” when I saw it. But it just seems to fit him somehow. [If anyone watches the Hallmark Channel series When Calls the Heart might recognize Amber, the girl who was partnered with Leif plays Fiona on that family-friendly series.]
So, Daniel Michael Davis is really so full of himself that it’s completely laughable. First with the dance number, then the comment about “pre-hires” – that clearly freaked Zoey out – to those ridiculous challenges; and then the comment – as you stated Karen – about having one female coder on the 4th floor. Really?! It’s not like we’re in the dark ages, or even the 80’s so why is this still an issue? It’s bad enough that they have a female team on the 4th floor who gets little to no screen time. If the show gets the 3rd season that we are hoping for (fingers crossed!), let’s hope they do better by the girls coders.
OMG, wasn’t David’s girlfriend Kersten just over the top?! How could he even be interested in someone that vapid and superficial and callous? At least we got to see how he and Emily reconnected; and learn they were lovers in college. Did we know that before? Because I don’t remember that backstory.
I loved, too, how music was still incorporated into the show even with the flashbacks especially with Mo being a Lyft or Uber driver, telling Zoey she would get a song from “Mo’s exquisite playlist.” I really enjoyed that!
I can’t believe that the season is over next week.

Roz: To me, this is setting up what I feel like will be a series finale. Zoey’s gone through so much and to see where she started before the beginning of the series is refreshing but heartbreaking at the same time. There’s such a moment with Zoey’s session that feels like she’s coming to some conclusions about her life and what has changed since her mom’s heart attack and I get the impression that she’s going to make a grand change after that moment and the realization that she met some of these people before she was with her heartsongs.
I love that we saw all of these in these moments of all of our characters before they were the people we know and love.
It’ll be sad to see what comes next week and what it means for the show.
