Salute to Current TV Moms
As we all know, Mother’s Day was on Sunday and I felt it was only right to take the time to salute some of the current TV moms who go above and beyond for their loved ones
Best “Real-Life” Mom
Beth Pearson (Susan Kelechi Watson) on This Is Us
It’s not easy being a mom in the Pearson family on the NBC series with all of the drama that has followed that family over the five seasons it’s been on the air; but Beth has faced all of it with plenty of heart, a level of tough love and enough steely resolve to weather all of the storms of life.
Best Superhero Mom
Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) on Superman & Lois
She may not have superhuman abilities like her husband, but as the mom of twin teenage sons she has to deal with their angst (and the aftermath of that angst), social anxieties and newly-revealed superpowers; while dealing with an enemy whose public persona is man of the decade.
Best Intentions Mom
Elizabeth “Liz” Keene (Megan Boone) on The Blacklist
The decisions Liz has made since becoming a mother have been well intentioned, but have not always been the best since her young daughter Agnes has been alongside her mother for much of it. They were short-term fugitives, and now Agnes is with a caretaker in hiding in a foreign country while he mom attempts to take down Raymond Reddington.
Best New Mom
Lola Carmichael (Simone Missick) on All Rise
Lola recently became a first-time mother, having time to spend with her newborn before returning to work to preside over her courtroom. She’s had a lot of tough cases since taking up the mantle of judge, and her toughest case yet is upcoming, which could put a bulls-eye on her entire family.
Best Front Line Mom
Tommy Vega (Gina Torres) on 9-1-1: Lone Star
Needing to return to work because of the pandemic, Tommy took over as the new paramedic captain at Station 126, having to deal not only with being back on the job but also having to leave her twin daughters at home with their (albeit temporarily) out-of-work restauranteur dad.
Best Crazy Mom
Jessica Whitly (Bellamy Young) on Prodigal Son
The Whitly family in this crime-thriller series are apeshit crazy to say the least; and while Jessica may mean the best when dealing with her, to say the least, messed-in-the-head children – not to mention her serial killer husband – she’s got a bit of a crazy streak herself.
Best Musical Mom
Maggie Clarke (Mary Steenburgen) on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist
While her daughter is the only one who can hear the heartsongs of those around her when they need help dealing with the issue at hand, Maggie is a loving mother who has gone through a health scare of her own, the loss of a beloved husband, the birth of her first grandchild and the resurgence of her career; and she handled it all with grace, tenderness, some tears and a little bit of music.
There are a lot of great moms on TV (the good, the bad and the otherwise). Who are your top TV moms? Please share your thoughts in our comments section below.
