A Million Little Things: “redefine”

By  |

A Million Little Things aired another new episode this week from its third season.

Here is the official synopsis for this episode (season 3, episode 11) entitled “redefine”:

Despite her trauma, Sophie goes through with her music school audition but quickly realizes she is struggling to move forward. Meanwhile, Rome and Regina grow closer to Tyrell. Katherine and Eddie are at a crossroads.

Nice Girls Cay and Rueben share their thoughts on this episode [spoiler alert]:

Cay:

Poor Sophie! I can definitely understand her crisis of confidence! Gross that so far it looks like there may be no repercussions for Peter. While it would be horrible for Sophie to have to make her experience public, what is stopping him from moving right on to another vulnerable teenager? It made my stomach twist to see how highly he is respected among his peers at the music school.

Gary’s reaction seems a bit more reasonable with the realization that he directly feels like he offered Sophie up to Peter. Good thing that Maggie was back to run interference and help him see that his reaction was not helping Sophie.

So, instead of Delilah coming home, now Sophie is gone! Wonder how long they will both be away? That’s going to leave Gary and Danny with lots of bonding time. Speaking of, I liked the comic relief of Danny explaining all the ways that he’s figured out to game the system with virtual school (you don’t get the impression that it is going to affect his grades much).

I also found it amusing that Rome was asking some of the same questions that we were about Florence! Turns out she is real and she is filling a pretty important role for Rome’s dad right now. I love it. My grandmother started dating and then married one of her friends from her teens and early 20s in her 70s after both of them were widowed. So sweet!!! It also looks like she could potentially be a nice go between for Rome and his father when needed.

We called it for Tyrell! Sad (but not unexpected) that his mother was deported, but it opens up some interesting storylines for Regina and Rome as the sudden foster parents of a teenager for at least a year! We’ve already seen how the two of them might parent a bit differently!

And that brings me to Katherine and Eddie. Sigh. At least I think they both understand the situation – if Katherine and Alan go further, Eddie won’t be in the dark. I liked how they used Jackie here as a confidant for Eddie but also to help him and Katherine manage Theo. Eddie doesn’t have many friends outside of the main group, especially those who potentially understand his history and experiences.

The only other comment I have is what’s with the gratuitous Target placements? Both have felt a bit over-the-top for a show like this. Having a visible bag or something is one thing, but I found both disruptive to the show, although this one was more subtle than the first one a few episodes back!

Rueben:

Wow, Cay, you said pretty much everything I wanted to say!

First of all, I’m a little pissed at Alan and Katherine for allowing that kiss to happen. Seriously? Theo was upstairs, and regardless of what head space Katherine is in, it’s not right. It wasn’t right for Eddie to have the affair with Delilah either, and just because he and Delilah allowed that to happen, doesn’t mean she should allow this to happen. Having an affair with Alan is not going to fix things at all, only make them worse!

Sophie was brave to go forward with the audition, and I commend her for not breaking down in tears right in front of the judges, who obviously know nothing about Peter. They may see him as a great guitar teacher/coach; but at some point I hope they do bring him to justice for what he did.

Yep, we did call it for Tyrell. I’m just glad that his mom told him not to come to Haiti BEFORE he got on the plane to go there. She is not in any position to have him there with her; and he will be better off with Rome and Regina until they can figure out how to best help his mom. It’s not going to be an easy road for any of them; and while it will be better for all of them with the fostering, I think they are guaranteed to hit several road bumps along the way.

I have to admit I was a bit irritated with Theo! I know he is just a child, and dealing with all that’s happening can’t be easy for him; but acting like a brat the way he has is just sets me off. I’ve never really been a kid-person and his attitude, especially toward his mother, is just annoying.

I am glad that Maggie put Gary in his place and that Gary actually listened to her, helping Sophie the way that Sophie needed rather than how he thought he should be helping her. Going to see her mom was actually a good idea. Her mom can help her heal, and she can get the separation from the whole situation to get in a better head space. But what was the deal with Gary punching his hand through the car window? Really?! That just didn’t make any sense.

Danny was great in the episode, as usually, and it will be quite comical to see how he and Gary handle being the house – just the two of them – for awhile.

As for Florence, I appreciate how she was a good sounding board for Walter – even if it was over the graves of their late spouses. I’m glad they explained it all out for us, and that Rome accepted it, and was nice with her. I hope this will be the good start for Walter in moving on.
