My Top 14 Choices for April TV

By  |

There are a lot of programming options in April to enjoy watching whether it be new dramas, returning dramas, made-for-TV movies or even shows that are coming to an end.

The following list are my top choices for the month.

CLOSING UP SHOP

Wynonna Earp will “ride” off into the sunset and bring down her last demon on Syfy on April 9 at 10 PM;

Sam and Graham will finish up their reality show Men in Kilts on April 11 starting at 8:55 PM on Starz; and

The final episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will air on Disney+ on April 23.

WELCOME BACK

The season premiere of Manifest – that is claiming viewers, who have stuck around now for season 3, will finally get some answers – will air on NBC at 8 PM on April 1; and,

The 7th season of Younger will premiere on April 15 on Paramount+ (formerly CBS All Access).

MOVIES, MOVIES, MOVIES

Spring Fling is continuing on the Hallmark Channel with three new made-for-TV movies airing in April. They include:

One Perfect Wedding on April 3 at 9 PM, starring Taylor Cole and Jack Turner – this is the third movie in the franchise, finding Cara and Ben getting ready to wed;
As Luck Would Have It on April 10 at 9 PM, starring network first-timers JoAnna Garcia Swisher (Sweet Magnolias) and Allen Leech (Downton Abbey; and,
Right in Front of Me on April 17 at 9 PM, starring Janel Parrish (Pretty Little Liars and The Boys I Have Loved Netflix movie franchise) and Marco Grazzini (Virgin River and Kim’s Convenience).

The next two movies are about as opposite as you can get, but I’m still looking forward to watching them both:

Starting Up Love will debut on UPtv on April 18 at 7 PM, which is about a workaholic who inherits a beautiful mountainside cabin that she tries to turn into a holiday resort with the help of the family she never knew existed and the handsome caretaker; and,
Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse which debuts on Amazon on April 29 that stars Michael B. Jordan as an elite Navy SEAL who gets revenge for his slain pregnant wife.

NEW SHOWS ON THE BLOCK

There are numerous new shows set to debut in April. The following are the dramas I’m most anxious to see:

Kung Fu (yep, they’ve done a reboot of the classic series) will debut on The CW at 8 PM on April 7. The show focuses on young Chinese-American Nicky Shen (Olivia Liang from Legacies), who drops out of college and goes on a life-changing journey to an isolated monastery in China. When she returns to San Francisco, she finds her hometown is overrun with crime and corruption and her own parents are at the mercy of a powerful Triad. With the help of her siblings, ex-boyfriend and new love interest, she protects her community and brings criminals to justice.

Rebel, inspired by the real life Erin Brockovich, will debut on ABC on April 8 at 10 PM. The series stars Katey Sagal as Annie “Rebel” Bello, a blue-collar legal advocate without a law degree. The cast includes John Corbett, Andy Garcia, Sam Palladio from Nashville and Tamala Jones from Castle.

The Nevers, set in Victorian London with a decidedly sci-fi twist, stars Laura Donnelly (Outlander) and Ann Skelly (the Irish crime drama Red Rock) will debut on HBO on April 11 at 9 PM. The series is about a supernatural event that strikes the city, giving certain people – mostly women – abnormal abilities.

Shadow and Bone, based on the book franchise by author Leigh Bardugo, will debut on Netflix on April 23. Dark forces conspire against orphan mapmaker Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) when she unleashes an extraordinary power that could change the fate of her war-torn world.
