A Million Little Things: “miles apart”

By  |

We got another new episode of A Million Little Things this week on ABC. Here is the official synopsis for this episode (season 3, episode 6) entitled “Miles apart”:

Maggie is forced to face the harsh reality that cancer still controls her life, while Gary must choose between supporting a friend in need and building his relationship with Darcy. Meanwhile, Rome helps Regina at Someday during the COVID-19 transition.

Nice Girls Cay and Rueben share their thoughts on this episode [spoiler alert]:

Cay:

Well, unexpectedly the Maggie pregnancy plot (or at least the pregnancy) was resolved pretty quickly! It’s sad that she didn’t feel like she even had a chance to consider having the baby with her cancer looming over her. But also lucky that she is in Massachusetts where she had a choice in the matter (MA has strong laws protecting a woman’s right to choose.) While we called it that Maggie wouldn’t be leaving until her screenings are done (which means she is likely not going anywhere for a while!), I totally did NOT predict that Jamie would come to her!

So now both of them are going to be “stuck” in the US for likely several months minimally. Meanwhile, they don’t have an apartment, etc. I presume that they will end up finding something together and then will isolate together, which one way or another, will be a good way to figure out where their relationship is headed, as many have found out in the last year!

Poor Gary! He tries so hard, but just can’t do right! It’s so sweet that he cares so much for Maggie (and everyone else in his life) but I can also appreciate that if I was Darcy, I would be a bit uncomfortable for Maggie to be back and Gary to be spending so much time with her. I don’t love him and Darcy as a couple anyway, so I have little emotional stake in whatever happens to their relationship, but it seems that the door with Maggie is probably firmly closed at this point, so if he and Darcy break up, he’s on his own.

I’m so frustrated with the whole Eddie plotline right now! I guess he’s an addict, so I shouldn’t expect anything different, but it’s still agonizing to watch him slide back without trying in any way to get any help for himself, or to tell Katherine. Do we really need another “Eddie hits rock bottom” plot? And don’t get me started on Dakota. Seriously, she’s going to enable him now? I never liked their relationship before, and now I really hate it. He tells her off about her drug use, then she tells him off, then she brings him pills?? The only redeeming thing about this whole storyline this week was Dakota’s comment about Eddie’s hair, which is definitely not as flattering as it usually is (Eddie’s been looking rougher and rougher, which is a challenge as David Giuntoli is so handsome!)

Oh, Rome and Regina…all things considered, I think they are both handling things relatively well! We saw a lot of the same dynamic between them that we’ve seen before, but in the end, they actually communicated with each other rather than having it all dissolve into a big fight. I’m interested to see what the purpose was of introducing the new candy bar selling/food delivering teenager. He didn’t really have a purpose in this episode if they don’t have plans for him in the future.

Rueben:

Wow, you said it all, Cay! Each thing I was thinking about the characters, you said it.

I’m aggravated beyond all reasoning with Eddie. I know he’s an addict, and it’s clear he is in pain (and as someone who has suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis since I was 3 years old, I get being in pain); but ASK FOR HELP! Don’t hide it or get Dakota to enable your problem, or hit rock bottom AGAIN. It’s so frustrating! It looks like things might come to a head next week depending on what conversation he has with Katherine. Will he come clean?

How funny was the whole Willy Wonka conversation between Gary and Maggie. It was like seeing them back together as a couple even though they aren’t. Gary really does care about all of his friends, and I respect his wanting to be there for Maggie; but the warning signs are clearly there for him and Darcy. I’ve never warmed up to them in their relationship either, and this will just be the start of it falling apart. Also, I was totally taken by surprise that Jamie showed up, getting out of the U.K. just in time before the locked everything down. I did not expect that arrival AT ALL!

It was a little humorous to see Rome trying so hard to help Regina at the restaurant, but missing the mark each time; but as you said, it was terrific that they didn’t let the issues dissolve into any arguments. Hopefully they’ve learned from past mistakes to TALK to each other first.

I also agree that it was ridiculous to include that teenager hustling for work at the restaurant if there isn’t some kind of intention to have him play a larger part – somehow, some way – in the future. Otherwise that was like a throw away story plot that fell flat.

Cay's family thinks her obsession with pop culture is "not normal". Normal is boring!
