My Top 15 Choices for March TV
March is almost here. How is that possible? Time seems to be steamrolling right on by, but we can always count on the major and cable networks for plenty of entertainment.
The following are my top 15 choices for new dramas to watch, new made-for-TV movies to check out and even some shows to say farewell to (at least for now).
WELCOME TO THE FOLD
The following new dramas will debut throughout the month:
The new drama Debris will debut on NBC on March 1 at 10:01 PM. This sci-fi series focuses on what happens when wreckage from a destroyed alien spacecraft scatters across the Western Hemisphere. The pieces of the wreckage start messing with the laws of physics, changing lives. Two agents from different continents, and different mindsets, [Riann Steele from The Magicians and Jonathan Tucker from City on a Hill and Westworld] are tasked to work together to recover the debris, whose mysteries humankind is not quite ready for.
The much anticipated and highly touted Disney+ drama The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will debut on March 19. After being handed the mantle of Captain America at the end of Avengers: Endgame, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) teams up with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) in a worldwide adventure that puts their abilities to the test as they fight the anti-patriotism group the Flag-Smashers. The cast includes Daniel Bruhl, Emily VanCamp and Wyatt Russell.
The 8-part National Geographic Channel’s anthology series Genius: Aretha will debut its first two hours on March 21, starting at 9 PM. Two new episodes will air each night on March 22, March 23 and March 24. Broadway and movie star Cynthia Erivo will star as the one and only Aretha Franklin. The movie will explore Franklin’s musical genius and her incomparable career, as well as the immeasurable impact and lasting influence she has had on music and culture around the world.
THEY’RE BACK
The following dramas are finally back with new episodes from their existing seasons or finally getting started with their new season, delayed by the pandemic:
The season premiere of New Amsterdam will air on NBC at 10:01 PM on March 2;
The mid-season premiere of the 4th and final season of Wynonna Earp will air on Syfy on March at 10 PM;
The spring (mid-season) premiere of A Million Little Things will all air on ABC at 10 PM on March 11; and,
The spring return of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist will air on March 28 on NBC at 9 PM.
MOVIES TO WATCH
The Netflix movie Moxie will debut online on March 3. The movie focuses on a shy 16-year-old who is fed up with the sexist and toxic status quo at her high school. She finds inspiration from her mother’s rebellious past and anonymously publishes a zine that sparks a school-wide, coming-of-rage revolution.
The new mystery movie Blue Ridge will debut on INSP on March 13 at 8 PM. A murder in a sleepy town at the heart of the Blue Ridge mountains refuels a longtime feud between two of the community’s most powerful families. The new sheriff, Justin Wise (Johnathon Schaech (That Thing You Do!), finds himself in a race against time to solve the murder before ‘mountain justice’ takes over and the townspeople take the law into their own hands. Chuck alum Sarah Lancaster and Oscar winner Graham Greene co-star.
Say what you will about the DC Universe box office movies, but I’m curious to see the special presentation of Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max on March 18.
The Hallmark Channel movie Breakup Boot Camp will debut at 9 PM on March 27. Starring Hallmark hunk Ryan Paevey – so, of course, I’m totally there for him – the movie focuses on Miranda (Italia Ricci from Designated Survivor and several Hallmark Channel movies too), who runs a boot camp for the recently broken hearted. She begins to form a connection with new client Ben (played by Paevey) who is also a reporter, investigating whether her boot camp is a fad or a phenomenon.
COMING TO AN END (FOR NOW)
The following shows will air their season finales in March:
WandaVision on Disney+ on March 5;
9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star on FOX on March 8 at 8 and 9 PM; and,
Resident Alien on Syfy on March 31 at 10 PM.
Our full March TV calendar will go live on Thursday so make sure to take a look to see what strikes your interest and mark your calendars!
