My Top 11 Choices for February TV

By  |

The second month of 2021 is nearly here, and despite everything that is happening out there in the big, scary world, there are new and returning TV shows and made-for-TV movies to look forward to watching next month to help take our minds off reality (at least temporarily).

NEW SHOWS ON THE BLOCK

Firefly Lane will debut on Netflix on February 3. Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy) and Sarah Chalke (Scrubs) star as Tully and Kate (respectively), childhood best friends who, for decades, have weathered life’s storms together: until a betrayal threatens to break them apart for good.

Superman & Lois will debut on The CW on February 23 at 8 PM. Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf) and Elizabeth Tullock (Grimm) reprise their title roles from the small screen DC Universe, following the couple as they deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society.

Ginny & Georgia on February 24 on Netflix. This teen drama stars Brianne Howey (The Passage and Batwoman) as 30-year old mom Georgia, whose 15-year old daughter, Ginny, often feels more mature than mom. After years on the run, Georgia wants to put down roots in picturesque New England and give her family a normal life. Hart of Dixie alum Scott Porter co-stars [and he is the main reason why I will be watching!].

WELCOME BACK AND SO LONG (FOR NOW)

The 8th season of the Hallmark Channel period drama When Calls the Heart will premiere on February 21 at 9 PM.

Also on February 21, airing at 8 PM, will be the season finale of the PBS period drama Miss Scarlet and The Duke.

A few weeks before that the mid-season of the fan favorite Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist will air on NBC at 8 PM. Thankfully, the show will be back with the rest of its second season sometime this Spring.

WATCHING A REALITY SHOW

I have been opposed to reality programming since it came into prominence back in the early 2000’s, as that form of alternate TV just is NOT my type of programming. I wanted (no, demanded) scripted dramatic programming: my TV of choice.

However, that changes on February 14 when Outlander stars Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish will appear in the Starz reality series Men In Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham that is set to air at 9 PM that night.

Viewers will be taken on the road from the heart of Scotland at Glencoe, the site of a great massacre and major clan feud to Inverness and the Culloden battlefield, the site of a great battle and historic turning point that molded Scotland as we know it today.

MOVIES, MOVIES, MOVIES

Hallmark Channel has new movies to watch in February, including the following:

Beverly Hills Wedding on February 6 at 9 PM, starring Brooke D’Orsay (Royal Pains) and Brendan Penny (Chesapeake Shores);

Playing Cupid on February 13 at 9 PM, starring Laura Vandervoort (Smallville and Bitten) and Nicholas Gonzalez (The Good Doctor and Pretty Little Liars); and,

It Was Always You on February 27 at 9 PM, starring Erin Krakow (When Calls the Heart) and Tyler Hynes (Warehouse 13 and Saving Hope).

And the final movie in the franchise – To All the Boys: Always and Forever – will debut on February 12 on Netflix. Here is the synopsis for the movie: As Lara Jean Covey (Lana Condor) prepares for the end of high school and the start of adulthood, a pair of life-changing trips leads her to reimagine what life with her family, friends, and Peter (Noah Centineo) will look like after graduation. The cast includes Jordan Fisher, Janel Parrish, Anna Cathcart, Madeleine Arthur, Ross Butler, Holland Taylor, John Corbett and Sarayu Blue [among others].
