OPINION PIECE: The Day the Earth Stood Still

By  |

NOTE: The following piece is MY OPINION and not those of NiceGirlsTV, as I can only speak for myself not the entire staff.

No, I’m not writing about the 1951 movie of the same name (least of all the 2008 remake), but rather the fate of the United States with Election Day here upon us. As we all gather tonight to watch the news to learn who will be the President of the United States, it will definitely feel like “the day the Earth stood still” as we await the announcement (which could actually be several days, possibly even weeks, from now while every state counts every last vote.)

It’s been an incredibly difficult year, to say the least, for everyone across the globe with the COVID-19 pandemic not to mention the destructive weather patterns that have struck all over the world. The death tolls from COVID-19 and all those horrible storms have been nothing short of devastating.

There is little to nothing that any of us could have done about the storms that have wreaked havoc all over the globe. Although those who believe in climate change could assuredly give all of us some great recommendations on how to protect the environment which would, in turn, protect all of us, but that’s a story for another time.

Then there is the COVID-19 pandemic and how it has been handled (or not) especially in the United States. To say the least, the way the virus has been handled by the current man in the White House has been irresponsible and reckless. That man has flagrantly disregarded the EXPERTS – the medical professionals who know more about a virus than he does let alone John and Jane Doe in rural America.

Rather than support and agree with those EXPERTS, that man shunned Dr. Anthony Fauci (even calling for him to be fired IF he gets re-elected as President), has argued with CDC experts and consistently provided false and misleading information about the pandemic. That’s not my opinion but reported facts by countless news outlets. [And don’t get me started about “fake news” or “alarmist media outlets!”]

How does a global pandemic become a political issue rather than an international HEALTH issue? That same man currently in the White House. He has almost consistently refused to wear a mask and has encouraged his “followers” to do the same merely by disregarding the EXPERTS. Wearing a mask during a global pandemic has NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING, to do with your rights. If that were true, than why are we all following the mandates (that eventually became law) to wear a seat belt when you’re driving, putting your child in a car seat and so many other “mandates” that eventually came into law FOR YOUR HEALTH AND SAFETY!!?? Is it really that hard to wear a piece of fabric over your nose and mouth when you are out of your home and around other people for THEIR SAFETY as well as those people you spend the bulk of your time with: your family!? Or perhaps you’d rather be in the hospital, needing a ventilator to breath? If you say no to wearing a mask, perhaps you should talk to the family members of the over 231,000 Americans (as of November 1, 2020) who have lost family members to COVID-19.

With my opinion about the man in the White House on clear display, here are a couple videos that should be seen by everyone, as they both clearly outline who this man really is and his inability to do the job he was tasked with back in 2016:

Trump & the Coronavirus: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO):

Would You Hire…?:

Please, please make sure you vote (if you haven’t done so already), and let’s hope that while this will be “the day the Earth stood still,” let’s hope that once ALL the votes have been counted that we can wake up to a new day where a man will get into the office who will make a real difference for all of us.
