Blindspot Roundtable: Fire & Brimstone
Blindspot aired a new episode this week titled “Fire & Brimstone” which focused on the following:
When Ice Cream, the Icelandic fixer, returns to collect his debt, the team is forced into a life and death race around the world to solve a series of puzzles and recover the infamous stolen Gardner paintings.
Join the Nice Girls Cay, Rueben, Roz, and Lisa as they discuss the episode using our feature SASSY: S(tupid), A(wesome), S(o) S(o) and Y(our Thoughts):
*warning spoilers ahead*
STUPID
Roz: Patterson can you not spoil Zapata’s news for any more folks? Letting it slip because of deli meat is one step too far at this point!
Rueben: Nearly all this episode felt pretty blah to me actually. I agree that Patterson should’ve kept her mouth shut, but so much in this episode seemed so contrived. I kept shaking my head throughout the whole thing with the exception of a few clever lines from Rich (yet again).
Lisa: I agree Rueben. I found myself shaking my head throughout this episode as well. the team is too intelligent to keep making dumb mistakes and Patterson definitely dropped the ball by spilling the beans about Zapata’s pregnancy.
Cay: Not only is Burke in charge of everything, but her “lawyer” is now running things, too? Seriously, is everyone in high places in the American government complete morons? (ok, I admit there is current precedent for this…). Also, how stupid and weak is Weitz? He keeps getting played. I want to see him actually be useful, or Burke may as well kill him, too.
AWESOME
Roz: I love the last scene where Patterson realizes that the paintings weren’t gone after all! Plus getting Ice Cream to give up the paintings for the fame is a win all around. If only the paintings could actually be recovered that way.
Rueben: I will concede that their convincing Ice Cream (really, that’s his name?!) to do the right thing by using his pride and avarice for fame to get a better result was quite fun to watch. I also like Rich’s line about the “Temple of Doom-ish” when he and Patterson found the stairs to that underground room at the monastery.
Cay: Loved Patterson and Rich dressed as a nun and priest – hilarious! Especially as Rich is about as far from a man of the cloth as you can get! I would have happily had the whole episode be this!
Lisa: Yes Rich and Patterson as the Nun & Priest was awesome! I love a good art heist plot. When Rich walked in the basement and saw the art and said “Jesus, Mary and Jessica Biel” I snort laughed! He has the best lines and saved what was just a meh episode for me.

SO SO
Roz: What the heck Madeline? I get that you need things done yesterday, but to not let Weitz even try to do what he should do with Shah seems short-sighted and trigger-happy.
Rueben: Now we are back to Zip again. Didn’t we get enough of that in other seasons? Burke’s trying to weaponize it on a grand scale?! Good grief! How many times are we going to revisit old storylines?
Lisa: I’m over Burke and I’m over Zip. I wish they would use Zip on her so she could forget how evil she is!
Cay: I liked the set-up for this episode, but it wasn’t as fun as it could have been. I could have done without Jane and Kurt’s soul searching.
YOUR THOUGHTS
Roz: This overall felt less like the pure heist episode I wanted, but the end result is that the team returned the paintings and worse people than them are not around anymore (just not yet on Madeline. Can we hope for that soon?)
Rueben: I felt bad that Susan Shah had to be a victim of Burke’s greed for power. I just really want the team to take her down HARD!! I also want to know who is this mysterious person leaving the team clues. They use a decoded nonsensical article written by someone using an anagram for Burke’s name. Bleh!! Can we just get on with all this already? Let’s get the team out of the bunker, on the defensive with Burke and her goons and such take that b*tch down.
Cay: Yeah, we need more on whoever is seemingly helping the team. If they are going to divert us from the main plot at this point, it has to be a good diversion, and this episode didn’t live up to its promise. And, strangely, when they were trying to convince Ice Cream to do the right thing, they told him that was a $5M reward, when it is actually $10M – seems like the $10M would have been more motivating!
Lisa: Who is leaving the team clues? Can we get a clue? And I’m 100% to see the team out of the bunker and kicking Burke’s ass. For this t be the final season, It’s hard to see how it all will wrap up and next week’s episode looks like a doozy!
