My Top Choices for April TV

With all the turmoil in the world, I think a lot more of us are spending a great deal more time at home; and one of the things we all seem to be doing a LOT more of is watching TV. Granted, the weekly line-ups on the major and cable networks have been difficult to keep track of because of the changes that keep happening, but if all goes well the following will be just some of the events taking place on the small screen throughout April.

WE BID YOU ADIEU

The series finales of The Magicians will air on Syfy on April 1 at 10 PM with the series finale of Strike Back set to air on Cinemax on April 17 at 10 PM.

Then there are the season finales of Manifest on April at 10 PM on NBC meanwhile New Amsterdam will come to an end on NBC on April 14 at 10 PM.

COMING BACK FOR MORE

The Freeform fantasy series Siren will air its 2-hour premiere on April 2 at 9 PM while the thirds season of the Canadian drama Frankie Drake Mysteries will air on Ovation at 7 PM and the timeslot premiere of the new NBC drama Council of Dads will air on April 30 at 8 PM.

SLING FLING AND MORE

The Hallmark Channel hasn’t run out of new movies just yet; and will have three new movies celebrating spring. They include:

You’re Bacon Me Crazy on April 4 at 9 PM, starring Natalie Hall and Michael Rady.
Fashionably Yours on April 11 at 9 PM, starring Kat Graham and Kendrick Sampson.
Nature of Love on April 18 at 9 PM, starring Emilie Ullerup and Christopher Russell.

Not to be outdone are UPtv, Lifetime and Netflix each of which will have new movies airing throughout the month, including:

Love Wedding Repeat on Netflix on April 10, starring Sam Claflin, Olivia Munn, Freida Pinto and Eleanor Tomlinson.
The Clark Sisters: The First Ladies of Gospel on Lifetime on April 11 at 8 PM, starring Aunjanue Ellis, Angela Birchett, Raven Goodwin, Christina Bell, Shelea Frazier, and Kierra Sheard.
In-Lawfully Yours on UPtv on April 12 at 7 PM, starring Chelsey Crisp, Marilu Henner, Joe Williamson, Corbin Bernsen and Phillip Boyd.
Woman of the House on UPtv on April 26 at 7 PM, starring Kirsten Zien, Charlie Carrick, Larissa Albuquerque, Sarah Dugdale and Sarah Dejardins.

WELCOME TO THE LINE-UP

And, there are 3 new dramas that will debut during April, featuring some great ensemble casts. They are:

World on Fire on PBS on April 5 at 9 PM.

This 7-part World War II mini-series follows the intertwining fates of ordinary people in five countries as they grapple with the effects of the war on their everyday lives. The cast includes Helen Hunt (As Good As it Gets, Mad About You), Sean Bean (Game of Thrones), Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread), Jonah Hauer-King (Little Women and Howard’s End) and Blake Harrison (A Very English Scandal).

Belgravia on EPIX on April 12 at 9 PM.

Set in the 19th Century, the story focuses on what happens when the Trenchards accept an invitation to the now legendary ball hosted by the Duchess of Richmond on the fateful eve of the Battle of Waterloo. This sets in motion a series of events that will have consequences for decades to come as secrets unravel behind the porticoed doors of London’s grandest neighborhood. The ensemble cast includes Tom Wilkinson, Harriet Walter, James Fleet, Ella Purnell and Philip Glenister.

Mrs. America on Hulu on April 15

The drama the story of the movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), and the unexpected backlash led by a conservative woman named Phyllis Schlafly (Cate Blanchett). Through the eyes of the women of that era – both Schlafly and second wave feminists Gloria Steinem (Rose Byrne), Betty Friedan (Tracey Ullman), Shirley Chisholm, (Uzo Aduba) Bella Abzug (Margo Martindale) and Jill Ruckelshaus (Elizabeth Banks) – the series explores how one of the toughest battlegrounds in the culture wars of the 70s helped give rise to the Moral Majority and forever shifted our political landscape. The ensemble cast includes James Marsden, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Melanie Lynskey, Niecy Nash, Sarah Paulson Aria Graynor and John Slattery.
