Batwoman Roundtable: Drink Me
Batwoman episode 13: Drink Me
A new villain arrives in Gotham city; The Hold Up opens in grand fashion; Sophie reluctantly requests that Batwoman keep her distance from her since she believes their interactions boast the potential to compromise her career trajectory.
Join NiceGirls Lisa and Cay as they discuss the episode using our feature SASSY: S(tupid), A(wesome), S(o) S(o) and Y(our Thoughts):
STUPID
Lisa: Jacob is stupid for no longer trusting Sophie. She has been kick ass at her job and held down the city while he was in jail. He may disagree with her methods but her intention was good and she shouldn’t be let go for that.
Cay: Jacob was stupid for a lot of reasons this episode! Let me count the ways: 1) thinking Batwoman is public enemy number 1, 2) not questioning the fact that Beth looked very different than Alice has ever looked 3) Treating Sophie so poorly.
Speaking of Sophie, seriously, she stares at Batwoman’s lips, then KISSES her, she previously suspected Batwoman could be Kate, and now she doesn’t see it? Denial, much??
Also got to give a shout out to the completely ridiculous medical stuff in this episode. Alice gets bled halfway (at least?) to death, yet has blood leftover to save Mary. Mary is basically exsanguinated until her heart nearly stops, yet Alice still has enough blood to sustain them both? And then Mary recovers with just a few cookies like she just donated a pint? At the very least, they should have acknowledged that Mary was attacked by Nocturna and we should have seen her in a legit hospital with Kate and Jacob worrying at her bed, recovering with phrases such as “massive transfusion” and “lucky to be alive” thrown about by people in white coats!
AWESOME
Lisa: Yay! The Bat is out of the bag! I’m so glad that Mary figured out that Kate is Batwoman. Hopefully now she can help Luke and be on the Batwoman team.
Cay: Yep, that was my favorite part, too. Mary is too smart to keep her in the dark that much. I did like that they reminded us of her “influencer” side with the party and her getting tipsy. They originally introduced her as that, but ever since revealing her “clinic”, they’ve pretty much gone away from her cover identity of sorts.
SO SO
Lisa: Now that Alice is alive, I’m not sure where her storyline is going to go. How long can she be mad that Kate chose to save Beth over her? Rachel Skarsten is amazing in this role but the storyline right now for her is meh for me.
Cay: I had a few moments of hope that Alice was actually going to be killed by Nocturna! They were short-lived. OTOH, in some ways we have seen some strides from her. Yes, she did sic Nocturna on Mary, but it was sort of in self-defense and she did end up saving her, so maybe we’ve hit a turning point?
Can we talk about how creepy that manikin place was? And Alice taking to that one like it was Mouse? Maybe she’s finally decompensating and that’s where this is going? She has a breakdown and gets institutionalized and rehabilitated somewhat? Or her and Kate team up to go after Mouse’s father?
YOUR THOUGHTS
Lisa: Wooo! That Batwoman and Sophie kiss was hot…hot…hot!!! She should have figured out it was Kate by now, but after that kiss she should know for sure. Will she be Batwoman’s girlfriend now? I can’t wait to see how that plays out (even though we have to wait 2 weeks).
Cay: Overall, other than the medical ridiculousness, I liked this episode. I thought Alice played an interesting role and it was nice to have a completely different villain.
I did think that it was weird how quickly Jacob went from being in jail to being free, without much explanation about his exoneration. Maybe there was an extra scene here that got cut? Also strange that did we see a single scene with him at Kate after his dramatic release from prison? You’d think they would have had a scene about Beth’s death, him getting out of prison, etc.
Batwoman airs Sunday nights at 8pm/7c on The CW and is available on the CW App the next day.
