Interview: Brant Daugherty – Vision of Love

By  |

The new UPtv movie Vision of Love debuts tomorrow night, starring Larisa Oleynik (10 Things I Hate About You) and Brant Daugherty (Dancing With the Stars and Pretty Little Liars).

The movie follows divorce lawyer Katherine Bixby (Oleynik) who is told by a (supposed) fortune-telling manicurist (Charlene Tilton from Dallas) that she will meet her soul mate, who is named Michael. This prediction sets Katherine to date a series of Michaels, including her former high school boyfriend (Shaun Sipos from Krypton), until destiny and coincidence collide.

That coincidence just might be charming author Tom Stanfield (Daugherty), who is in charge, along with Katherine, of planning the wedding of their respective best friends Marcie (Laura Breckenridge from the popular holiday movie A Christmas Kiss) and Rick (Ryan Sypek from Wildfire).

The movie also stars veteran actors Beverly D’Angelo and Elliot Gould.

We recently had the chance to chat with cast member Brant Daugherty, and this is what he shared with us:

Please tell us about your latest UPtv movie in your own words?

Vision of Love is a charming love story about a woman who has to decide between following the rules or following her heart.

What did you like best about the character that you portray in this movie?

My character Tom is dealing with a profound loss. He got derailed after his wife’s death, but he’s trying over and over to get back on track. I really connected with his optimism and his determination to move forward.

Did you get to work with either Beverly D’Angelo or Elliot Gould? If so, what was that experience like for you?

I didn’t get to work with either of them, unfortunately. But I met Beverly and Elliot on set and they were both great. I’ve been a big fan of both of them since I was a kid. Elliot mostly asked about Dancing with the Stars. I managed to refrain from geeking out on him about Friends.

You worked with your wife, Kimberly Hidalgo Daugherty, in the UPtv holiday film A Christmas Movie Christmas. Do you plan to do more movies together?

Kim and I will absolutely do more movies. We work well together, which is probably one of the reasons we’re married. It had been a goal of ours to star in a movie together and it was one of the best filming experiences I’ve ever had.

You and your wife also wrote and produced that movie together. Do you want to do more projects as a writer-producer? Do you have dreams of directing?

That was our first feature-length writing credit, which was a really rewarding experience. We have a lot more where that came from. Actually, directing has been a dream of mine for a long time. We’re developing something exciting right now that I will direct, but I can’t say much more than that at the moment.

Can you share one thing about yourself that might surprise your fans?

My wife and I have a few dogs and they each have theme songs. So we walk around the house all day just mindlessly singing songs to our dogs. We’re very happy. Crazy, but happy.

Do you have a charity that you support?

I’ve worked closely with New Horizons in Los Angeles, which provides day care services and job placement opportunities for people with special needs. Their facility and staff are incredible and they deserve a lot of credit for changing people’s lives. Please consider making a donation if you can.
