Do You Remember: North Shore

By  |

The FOX prime-time soap opera North Shore debuted on June 14, 2004. The series centered on the staff and guests of the fictional Grand Waimea Hotel and Resort on Oahu’s North Shore in Hawaii.

Hawaiian native Jason Matthews (Kristoffer Polaha from Life UnExpected and the Mystery 101 film franchise on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries) runs the hotel. But when his former flame Nicole Booth (Brooke Burns from the Gourmet Detective Mysteries) arrives as the hotel’s new Director of Guest Relations, Jason’s world is turned upside down. But Grand Waimea owner, Vincent Colville (James Remar from Black Lightning) is watching Jason to make sure his past with Nicole won’t affect their work life.

The main cast also included:

Corey Sevier (Hallmark Channel’s Cedar Cove and numerous Hallmark Channel and Lifetime made-for-TV movies) as Gabriel McKay, a lifeguard and wanna-be pro surfer;

Nikki DeLoach (Awkward and also many Hallmark Channel made-for-TV movies) as MJ Bevans, a waitress at the hotel bar who was trying to start her own island clothing line;

Jay Kenneth Johnson (Days of Our Lives) as Chris Remsen, MJ’s sort-of boyfriend and proprietor of an extreme sports business;

Amanda Righetti (The Mentalist and Colony) as Tessa Lewis, a former con aritst who manipulated her way into the Assistant Concierge position at the hotel; and,

Jason Momoa (Stargate: Atlantis and a little movie called Aquaman that you might have heard of) as Frankie Seau, the hotel bartender.

There were a lot of familiar faces who guest starred on North Shore, who have gone on to appear in some well-known projects. They include:

Josh Hopkins, who went on to star in Cougar Town and the short-lived Whiskey Cavalier
Dominic Purcell, who went on to star in Prison Break and Legends of Tomorrow
Adrianne Palicki, who has gone on to appear in The Orville, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the GI Joe film franchise

Leighton Meester, who went on to star in Gossip Girl and Single Parents
Ana Ortiz, who has gone on to star in Ugly Betty and Devious Maids

Even some of the writers on the show have gone on to big projects like:

Jeff Rake, who is the creator of Manifest
Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts, who are executive producers on Star Trek: Discovery

Kevin Falls, who has worked on This Is Us and The Resident
Amy Berg, who directed and produced The Case Against Adnan Syed
Dana Barratta, who worked on Jessica Jones

The show received a 13-episode commitment from FOX, but ended up with a 21-episode single-season run. However, the show ended on a cliffhanger with the final episode airing only once, but not in most territories, including the USA. The reviews of the show were less than exemplary as well.
