How Are The New Fall TV Dramas Performing?
The 2019-2020 Fall TV season got underway a few weeks ago with a number of new shows debuting on the major networks. As any TV viewer knows, ratings are the key factor in determining how well a show performs; and while it is true our existing ratings system could easily be questioned on many levels, it’s the only ratings system we have so we have to make the best of it.
That being said, the following information was provided by the folks over at The Hollywood Reporter as well as my own records for overnight ratings.
The top 6 new dramas with adults 18 to 49 years of age [which is, sadly, the prime demographic that all of the networks focus on] are (from 1 to 6 in millions of viewers):
Prodigal Son – 1.8
Stumptown – 1.7
Emergence – 1.6
Evil – 1.3
Bluff City Law – 1.2
All Rise – 1.0
The top 6 new dramas in the overnight ratings are (from 1 to 6 in millions of viewers):
All Rise – 5.6
Bluff City Law – 4.5
Evil – 4.2
Prodigal Son – 4.0
Stumptown – 3.9
Emergence – 3.6
The top 6 new dramas in the Live+7 ratings, which measures live viewing plus DVR viewing up to seven days later are (from 1 to 6 in millions of viewers):
Stumptown – 9.1
All Rise – 8.5
Emergence – 8.4
Evil – 7.9
Bluff City Law – 7.6
Prodigal Son – 7.3
The only new drama that has received a full season order, so far, is FOX’s Prodigal Son.
It is a little too early to determine how the other new dramas are performing just yet, but the FOX drama Almost Family has averaged 2.8 million viewers in overnight ratings while the pilot of The CW’s new DC series Batwoman earned 1.8 million viewers and The CW’s Nancy Drew garnered 1.2 million viewers.
What new drama do you think will get the next full season order? Which new drama do you like best? The least? Which new drama do you think will get pulled from the prime-time schedule first? Please share your thoughts below.
