NICE BOY OF THE WEEK: Gentry White
We were lucky enough to have a short chat with Gentry White about his time on JETT. If you read any of our recaps from JETT this season you will see a recurring theme – we love Gentry White! His portrayal of Charles Jr. was brilliant and terrifying in the best way. We will never look at the game Hangman in the same way again. Gentry has been acting for some time and can be seen in everything from The Shannara Chronicles to UnREAL. So it’s no surprise then that he held his own against a slew of talent including, Giancarlo Esposito and a previous Nice Girl of the Week Carla Gugino. We can’t wait to see what he does next.
Every scene Junior was in was so intense. Do you remember what scene was used for the audition?
I do. It was the scene with me and the judge, before I blew up his car.
We would have loved for your character to stick around, but the whole scene leading up to his death was a perfect mix of energy and agitation. What is your process for getting into that coked out, violent mindset? How do you prepare for that?
I prepared by getting a good nights sleep! I knew playing a high energy coked out scene would take a lot. (Haha) But, additionally I just made sure I knew my lines well enough that no matter what they threw at me on set I would be able to still maintain my characters experience in the scene. I would pace around the room before each take, that really helped inform my energy level. If I dropped my energy the scene could fall flat, so I paced, and sniffed, and suspiciously moved my eyes around the room, to the point of sweating so that when Sebastian would call action I was already in it.
Jett had such an amazing cast. Who would be the ultimate co-star? If you could do a project with anyone – who would it be?
The ultimate co-star on the JETT cast? I’d have to say Gaite Jansen who plays Phoenix. Something about her playfulness with that character is such a great balance for Jett. Who I want to work with? Director wise, I can’t pick just one because I hope to work with them all, but I’d have to say Guillermo del Toro, Ava Duvernay, Steve McQueen, and Tina Mabry. Actor wise, I’d love to work with Viola Davis, Meryl Streep, and Cicely Tyson.
Is there a project you worked on in the past that you wished more people had seen? Something we can draw some attention to?
At this point JETT is my past, so watch that!
You heard him, watch JETT – the season finale airs Friday August 9th at 10:00 pm on Cinemax and then check back here for our recap.
