My Top Choices for August TV

By  |

Summer TV will come to a close at the end of next month with lots and lots of season finales, a handful of new shows debuting and a fair share of made-for-TV movies ready to debut.

Out of all those programming options, which you can see on our August TV calendar, I’ve picked out my top options for next month:

SAYING GOODBYE TIL NEXT SEASON

The following finales will air throughout the month:

August 1 – Siren on Freeform at 8 PM
August 2 – Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC at 8 PM
August 6 – The 100 on The CW at 9 PM
August 6 – Blood & Treasure on CBS at 10 PM
August 8 – Good Witch on the Hallmark Channel at 8 PM
August 24 – Frankie Drake Mysteries on Ovation at 8 PM

SUMMER NIGHT MOVIES

Since the Hallmark Channel started airing their seasonal movies, I’ve been hooked on watching them. Yes, I am a big sap; and enjoy watching them. The sappier the better. The latest Summer Nights movies include:

August 3 – Love and Sunshine will debut at 9 PM. Ally Craig (Danica McKellar) has been fostering retired military dog, Sunshine, as she recovers from a broken engagement. But sparks fly again when Sunshine’s military partner, Jake Terry (Mark Deklin) returns to claim the dog.

August 10 – A Taste of Summer will debut at 9 PM. Gabby Ferrar (Roselyn Sanchez) moves to the town of Bright Shore, Massachusetts to open a restaurant after a stint as a sous chef in New York. Upon arrival, she encounters Caleb Delaney (Eric Winter, Sanchez’s real life husband), a single father who runs his own restaurant and coaches the girls’ softball team. Both restaurants will compete in the Taste of summer Food Festival hosted in Bright Shore. During the course of the summer, Gabby finds joy in running her own restaurant as she rediscovers her passion and gets to know Caleb.

August 11 – In the Key of Love will debut on Hallmark Movies Now. Photographer Maggie (Laura Osnes) learns her ex-boyfriend/ex-singing partner (Scott Michael Foster) is in the wedding she is working. Tensions run high until they sing together, remembering how good they were as a duo.

August 17 – A Summer Romance will debut at 9 PM. Samantha’s (Erin Krakow) Montana ranch is her family’s legacy, so when a developer (Ryan Paevey) shows up to buy it, Sam isn’t interested. But as he tries to win her trust and her ranch, Samantha finds he might also be winning her heart.

August 24 – All Summer Long will debut at 9 PM. Tia’s (Autumn Reeser) dream job of captaining a dining cruise hits rough water when her ex Jake (Brennan Elliott) is hired as the restaurant’s chef. Will they be able to open a new business, navigate the sea and each other?

NEW SHOWS

The two new dramas I am most anxious to see in August couldn’t be more different. One is fantasy related and the other is as family friendly as you can get:

August 30 – The new Amazon drama Carnival Row will debut online. A human detective and a fairy (Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne) rekindle a dangerous affair in a Victorian fantasy world; the city’s uneasy peace collapses when a string of murders reveals an unimaginable monster.

August 30 – The When Calls the Heart spin-off series When Calls Hope will debut online on Hallmark Movies Now. In the early 1900s, sisters Lillian and Grace (Morgan Kohan and Jocelyn Hudon) open an orphanage in a northwestern town which is on the cusp of change; the sisters strive to find happiness and romance while meeting the challenges of taking care of children in their care.

What are you looking forward to watching next month?
