Comic-Con 2019 Day 3: Arrowverse, The Good Place, Conan and more!

By  |

Saturday at Comic-Con was another busy day for the Nice Girls, filled with panels and press rooms. Stay tuned for our interviews with the casts and creative teams of Arrow, The Flash, and Black Lightning. Let’s catch up with what else the Nice Girls did on Day 3!

Panels

From Roz: I had a great time in the panel for The Good Place which I will miss when it ends next year and The Expanse (wow! that Amazon money is making for some amazing visuals!)

Arrow Press Room

From Cay: I had two press rooms on Saturday – The Flash and Arrow. I’ve done both press rooms for a number of years now, and the cast of both shows are great, so it’s always nice to check in with them. Arrow was particularly poignant as it was the show’s last SDCC press room and we were all feeling a bit nostalgic. At first it looked like we weren’t even going to be able to talk to Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen/Green Arrow) but as the show panel was already over and we were the last press room of the day, he and a couple of other cast members stayed to make sure that every table got to talk with them. (Stay tuned for those interviews.)

Stephen had the original bow from the pilot episode with him and let us see it, and then showed one of the people at my table how to spin it in his hands. It was a really nice end to many years of Arrow press rooms!

Conan

Editor’s Note: We were given media passes to Saturday’s taping of Conan with the cast of Carnival Row. Most of the Nice Girls had other commitments that conflicted so I asked Rhonda, a good friend and fellow Orlando Bloom fan, to cover for us.

From Rhonda: The show started with a dance contest between audience members to loosen everyone up and get things going. Conan came on and did his monologue which included a listing of panels that won’t have long lines. My favorite was My Mom took Boba Fett Out of the Package: Grief Counselling for the Obsessive Collector.

As many people will recall, Conan had a superhero suit made for himself a few years back, with appropriate enhancements. Well this year he finally met his match. Kristen Schaal went back to Ironhead Studios and had the perfect supervillain suit made. It included comfortable shoes, a staff that could detect insecurities, and detachable exploding boobs.

The guests on the show were Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne from Carnival Row. They were both very excited about the new show. Conan asked Orlando for a succinct summary which somehow led to a discussion of cage fighting fairy prostitutes and the sex habits of the Fae. After a bit more of an explanation that the show deals with humans and fairies forced to live together by conflict, they showed a clip between Cara’s character Vignette Stonemoss and Orland’s Philo.

The show really does look amazing. The locations, the costumes, and the acting all make me very excited about seeing a great new fantasy show with an interesting new premise. Orlando mentioned that he had done a bit of fantasy before, which elicited both cheers and laughter. He said that he believed that one of the reasons that LOTR fans loved the franchise was because of the settings and details in the movie, and he didn’t think fans of LOTR would be disappointed by Carnival Row.

Celeb Sighting

Lisa continued her collection of Selfies with Celebrities today, getting photos with some of the Black Lightning cast and Aleks Paunovic from Van Helsing.
