Burden of Truth Recap: “Manic Street Preacher”

By  |

It was a sullen episode of Burden of Truth on Sunday night with Luna dealing with her new circumstances being held in a detention center for a crime she didn’t commit while Joanna, trying VERY hard to get her younger half-sister out of jail, has to get free from her client Noah – who has yet another court case to deal with from his former employers – as well as deal with her over-zealous boss who is intent on getting an investor to grow her firm. All Joanna wanted to do was get back to Millwood to save Luna, but…

Meanwhile in Millwood, Billy with a big assist from Diane are trying to narrow down the residents of the small town into a jury of Luna’s peers. Easier said than done it would seem, as when it was actually time for jury selection, Luna’s peers were few and far between. In fact, Diane discovered that much of the indigenous population weren’t even aware of the jury summons; and guess who showed up in droves: “old white dudes” [as classified by Luna’s mom Gerrilynn, who can’t be blamed for her choice of words since that was very true.]

Unfortunately, right in the middle of dealing with the bad choices of jurors, Billy has to come to the rescue of his inebriated brother Shane, who has gone off the rails. It would seem the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree with Shane. Joanna and Billy were forced to nearly drag Shane home from the local bar; and the following morning, when Owen paid a visit to Billy’s place about some missing evidence, Shane made a run for it. But why?!

It would seem that Shane was convinced that he was the real target at the motel. He claimed to Billy that he saw something he shouldn’t have, and was targeted by the mafia. Leading his brother back to his room at the motel, it was covered floor to ceiling with newspaper cut-outs and documents with red strings tied all around. Shane told his brother that he had been trying to help out with Luna’s case and all those documents would help.

Sadly, it turned out that those newspaper cut-outs and documents led nowhere, as Billy told Joanna that his younger brother was not well. That posed a problem for them as Shane had told the police in his original statement that he saw a girl at the motel. Of course, the police believed that girl was Taylor; but Shane said it wasn’t. The police just assumed that he meant Taylor, but could there have been another girl at the motel at the time of David’s death? Given what we know about Shane (or at least what Billy believed), Shane might not have seen anything that was real.

The other problem was that Joanna had gone to the Crown’s attorney with what they believed Shane saw and the fact that the Millwood Police didn’t look any further into the possibility of another girl being on the scene. But when she learned that Shane was “not well” and went back to the Crown’s attorney, she ended up getting herself into some hot water, making it look like she was trying to potentially falsify evidence in the case. Not…good!!

The one shining light in the entire episode was that Joanna, after falling apart over the jury selection and the seemingly impossible uphill battle ahead of them, gave in, kissing Billy. Right move, wrong time though.

What are your thoughts on the latest episode? Do you think Billy was right in his diagnosis of his brother Shane? What do you think of the missing evidence discovered by Owen? Were you glad to see Diane working with Billy and Joanna? What do you think will happen next to Luna? Please share your thoughts in our comments section below.
