The 100 Recap: “The Old Man and the Anomaly”

By  |

Tuesday night’s episode of The 100 gave viewers quite the reveal when Xavier, one of the Children of Gabriel, was proven to actually be Gabriel himself. Well, to be more precise, Gabriel’s mind inside the body of a much younger man, but Gabriel none the less.

It would seem that while Gabriel came to hate the very thing he created – a way for the “Primes” to stay alive forever – he didn’t want to die either so he trained one of the Children of Gabriel to perform the procedure that allowed his consciousness to be transplanted into another body before taking the life of that young man by the hands of his new host.

That reveal came about as Xavier led Diyoza and Octavia, who was fading faster and faster because of the after effects of that temporal flare. The only thing that could save Octavia was the anomaly – this strange swirling firestorm that was drawing all three of them straight to it. According to Xavier, though, no one ever came back out of the anomaly so when both Diyoza and Octavia entered it, Diyoza didn’t come back out. However, Octavia did and her withering arm was completely healed.

Meanwhile in Sanctum, Josephine was still battling Clarke for the ownership of Clarke’s body, and they both had only 36 hours to crown a victor or else Clarke’s body would fail. No rush there, right? It was Josephine’s plan to use an EMP on the chip in Clarke’s head to get rid of her once and for all; but once Bellamy and the rest of the Earth survivors found out the truth – that Clarke was still very much alive, albeit trapped inside her own mind (literally) – they had no intention of letting Josephine win out.

While making it appear that they – Murphy and Emori, that is – were working with Josephine, it was all a rouse to get Josephine out of Clarke’s body. Thank God that Jackson is as good a doctor as Abby, right? But, when it is discovered one of their own has been killed – at the hands of young Madi – Sanctum is put on lock down, and Russell has all the Earth people rounded up. Luckily, Bellamy was able to get Josephine outside the radiation framework, but not so lucky for the others were being taken straight to Russell. The punishment for them all isn’t going to be pretty.

Elsewhere, on the Eligius ship, Abby was making Nightbloods out of willing Sanctum members, but Raven is not so keen on this latest measure. Abby, of course, was laser-focused on saving Kane from his failing body, by using the Primes procedure on Kane’s mind, transplanting it into a new host. In the final scene, the procedure worked. Kane – inside the body of Gavin (guest star Greyston Holt from Bitten) – woke up to see Abby standing above him. They embraced, and then he discovered his dead body on the next gurney, realizing that Abby had done something horrible.
