Women Behind the Scenes Spotlight: Nazrin Choudhury
Today’s Women Behind the Scenes spotlight is focused on TV producer and screenwriter Nazrin Choudhury.
Nazrin was born in South West London, the youngest of five children to first-generation Bangladeshi parents. She graduated with a BSc in Biomedical Science from King’s College London with a view to becoming a doctor but she completed an MA in Screenwriting at the Northern Film School.
She did a little bit of acting, but got her start behind the scenes in 2002 working as a Story Associate on the long-running U.K. TV soap Coronation Street. From there she went on to become a writer for U.K. dramas EastEnders, Doctors, Casualty and Waterloo Road.
In 2016 she was a part of the writing staff for the short-lived thriller Damien before becoming a co-producer and writer on Houdini and Doyle. She followed that up with being a writer and co-producer on Wayward Pines, and then a supervising producer and writer on the period drama Damnation.
Last year she was a producer and writer on Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, and she is currently the supervising producer and writer on the summer CBS drama Blood & Treasure that is currently airing on Tuesday nights at 10 PM.
In addition to her writing career, Nazrin has held administrative positions within the university setting and in the political field. She previously served on the Board of Governors for the Local Education Authority and The Society Authors. She is also involved with BAFTA’s community outreach program providing mentorship and training for students in South LA as well as running her own storytelling workshops in schools and professional settings across the UK and in Los Angeles.
Nazrin is married and lives in Los Angeles. She can be followed on Facebook here.
