The 100 Recap: “The Gospel of Josephine”

By  |

The 100 aired a repeat on The CW tonight, but last week’s episode was quite a surprise with Clarke Griffin seemingly killed by the Head Primes Russell and Simone Lightbourne of Sanctum in order to resurrect their daughter Josephine.

I must say seeing Eliza Taylor transform from Clarke into Josephine was quite a sight to behold especially when Josephine confronted Kaylee (the surviving member of that family from Sanctum who took the drop ship) by stabbing her in the neck as retribution for what Kaylee did to the former version of Josephine: she killed her. You could say that Josephine is one cold hearted bitch!

Things didn’t improve throughout the episode when Mommy and Daddy Lightbourne expected Josephine to pretend to be Clarke in order to find out how many of the new people from Earth have black blood otherwise known as Nightblood. As it turned out, the Primes of Sanctum need those with Nightblood in order to resurrect the rest of the Prime. In fact, they basically kill those with Nightblood, using memory chips – like the Flame used on the Commanders of Earth, the very one inside Madi right now – allowing the Primes to live over and over again in different hosts. They are not Gods as believed by the residents of Sanctum, but have figured out to be immortal. At best they are liars and at worst they are murderers.

What’s worse – if there can be a worse – Josephine’s boyfriend (Dr. Gabriel Santiago) from when the planet was first being colonized – figured out a way to make them immortal, as seen in an old video found by Bellamy, Murphy, Gaia, Clarke (Josephine) and a very inquisitive Jordan, who wanted to find out what really happened to Delilah during her Naming ceremony that turned her into Priya. It would also seem that this Gabriel is the “father” of The Children of Gabriel.

The incidents from the past few episodes are all starting to come together, and now that Bellamy and the rest know what’s really going on, they are not only determined to try to stop the Primes but also get out of Sanctum; somehow creating their own place on this new moon away from Sanctum.

Unfortunately, once Clarke (Josephine) learned that it was because of her mother Abby that she was turned into a Nightblood, she knew what she needed to do in order to give them endless hosts; but she had to go about her devious plan in just the right way. After she paralyzed Bellamy, who figured out she wasn’t Clarke anymore, who did she approach? None other than Murphy himself – and we all know that’s not going to end well.

Elsewhere on the moon, Octavia and Diyoza are chasing down Xavier – one of the Children of Gabriel – but since he knew the moon much better than them, he trapped them in this strange goo very reminiscent of quicksand. He did that in order to find out how many of them have “blood alterations” – obviously their words for the Nightbloods. Octavia, of course, was determined to find a way out of the quicksand – of which there was none – but also not give Xavier any details. Diyoza, on the other hand, was willing to give up the details if it meant her life – or more to the point her unborn baby’s life – would be saved.

That didn’t work out either as a temporal flare – this moon has some really crazy and unexpected climate shifts – struck their exact location, causing Xavier to pull Diyoza free but Octavia was stuck – she could not move. In order to survive the fiery attack from the skies, Octavia went under the goo just as it was turned into frozen ash. A quick thinking Diyoza cracked the ice and pulled Octavia out, but it would seem the quicksand goo caused some damage to Octavia’s body; and they still needed to catch Xavier.

What are your thoughts on this episode? How scared are you of Josephine? What do you think happened to Octavia in that quicksand goo? What do you think about the Primes now? Do you have a different opinion of the Children of Gabriel now? Please share your comments below.
