LUCIFER Roundtable: “All About Eve”

By  |

Lucifer is back! We were pretty worried last year when Fox canceled the show starring our Future Fake Husband, but then Netflix divinely intervened and gifted us with a season four.

Netflix has dropped the whole season, as they do, but we will be recapping an episode a week to get the full season experience.

Join us as we use our rating system known as SASSY – S(tupid), A(wesome), S(o) S(o) and Y(Your Thoughts) – to discuss Lucifer episode 4.04, “All About Eve”. *warning spoilers ahead*

When a jewelry designer is murdered, Lucifer and Chloe strive to solve the case without each other’s help. Also, Lucifer reconnects with an old flame.

STUPID

Melissa: Calling the Linda/Amenadiel baby the “first” human/angel baby is stupid if we’re using the Bible as source material for a lot of this show’s mythology. Many scholars agree that the passages in Genesis 6:1-4, Ezekiel 32:27, and Numbers 13:33 refer to children born of fallen (male) angels and human females. I know this is being played for some comedy and maybe awe (so far I’m just getting comedy), but the angel/human race of people was one of my favorite realizations about what the Bible says about human history and I’m irritated that it’s being ignored here.

Cay: Yeah, I really got nothing in this category, potentially because I watched the episode weeks ago and can’t remember!

Lisa: Preach Mel! I also thought that was stupid. You can’t pick and choose when to use the source material. I also thought Chloe was stupid at the end. When she saw Lucifer with Eve she backed away and didn’t say anything. Speak up for what you want! I am over people making assumptions and not saying what is on their mind.

AWESOME

Melissa: Much to my surprise, Eve turned out to be awesome! When her character was revealed during filming, it sounded like a jump the shark moment. Just another way to drive a wedge between Chloe and Lucifer. Another Biblical mythology to half-ass. But lo and behold, Inbar Lavi’s take on Eve is fresh, delightful, and so much fun to watch. The combination of innocence and lust (for everything – Lucifer, adventure, danger, food, everything) makes Eve endearing and entertaining and a perfect foil for Lucifer and I think I love her.

Cay: I got a kick out of Maze’s overprotectiveness towards Linda. I really wanted to hate Eve because my first impression was that she was a bimbo (holy slow mo bouncing boob shot!) but she does have an appealing innocence/naivete to her.

Lisa: I think I love Eve too! She is definitely a breath of fresh air. An awesome moment for me was Maze and Amenadiel looking at the ultrasound with Dr. Linda. I thought it was adorable that he was looking for wings. And we have a little boy to look forward to. And I have to say during the auction I totally giggled that Lucifer’s paddle number was 69 (I know I have the sense of humor of a teenage boy but that was so funny to me).

Lucifer

SO-SO

Melissa: Let me preface this by saying I’m not into jewelry, especially not ostentatious pieces, so my knowledge about worth and understand of desire is limited. What was so great about the Desert Mirage necklace? Like, why was it worth killing for? Did I miss the significance beyond it being shiny? I guess for me that wasn’t a relatable motivation for this episode’s case of the week.

Cay: I think they said it was worth $3.5 million because of the stones, so yes, whether or not we thought it was attractive, people have killed for a whole lot less! I’m getting tired of mopey Dan. We get it, you are mourning Charlotte…but somehow this hasn’t seemed to make you much more relatable, just more annoying.

Lisa: Chloe and Dan solving cases together. Meh. It definitely isn’t as entertaining as Luci and Chloe. I know they have their issues now but I hope they at least can get a friendship/partnership back, otherwise the case of the week is going to get boring.

YOUR THOUGHTS

Melissa: I’m glad Linda and Chloe finally talked about what they each know about the supernatural. That was a bit of a loose thread that I was worried would get left dangling. In other news, is this season going to end with Lucifer deciding to expose his true face all the time? Is that where we’re heading, Lucifer’s acceptance of himself?

Cay: I think it will be interesting to bring Eve in to stir things up again (and potentially let Chloe see that she has no issues with Lucifer and knows him as well as any human).

Lisa: I think Eve will shake up the show a bit. Maybe acceptance will be a theme to this season! I look forward to seeing what happens with Amenadiel, Dr. Linda, and their baby boy on the way. And with babysitter Maze, things should be interesting. Also, I sense that Eve will get a little naughty and I like it.
