KILLING EVE 2.8: Thoughts on “You’re Mine” [Roundtable]

By  |

We’ve reached the end of season 2. It was a finale filled with twists and turns, so let’s see what Christie and I have to say about “You’re Mine.”

Here’s the official description of the Killing Eve season 2 finale, “You’re Mine “:

Eve’s mission is disastrously compromised. Carolyn briefs Eve on her current status as an employee of the British government and leaves Eve’s future in her own hands. Villanelle does everything she can in order to get to her ultimate target.

Beware: *SPOILERS* ahead.

THE GOOD

Christie: I was horrifically satisfied to see Aaron Peel die (in that no one should be satisfied to see someone else die). He needed to go. I wanted him gone sooner. I really didn’t care who did it. I kind of wish his end was grander, but that’s ok.

Also — Carolyn is an ice-cold badass. And she proved why Eve will never be her, could never be her.

Cara: I love Konstantin as a character, and I think this episode highlights why that is. He really does care for Villanelle, and he wants to help her whenever he can. But, in the end, he can only do so much for her because she’s such a destructive creature, and he has to protect himself and his family. I know it was a fairly minor part of the episode, but she’s clearly heartbroken when he tells her that she isn’t his family, and the scene where he’s waiting for Carolyn to give him information on his family, he just looks so sad and miserable. Whether it’s because he can’t help Villanelle or because he thinks she’ll really find him and his family, we don’t know.

THE BAD

Christie: Oh my gosh. I thought for certain that Eve was finally past being a spaz. That was a huge letdown.

Cara: I thought I’d be happier to see Aaron Peel die, but as good as the scene was, it felt like a letdown to me. I think I just felt like making him a serial killer was just a little too easy and cliche. Plus, I hated watching him asking Villanelle to join him. But, he’s dead, and I’m not sad about that.

THE OMG MOMENT:

Cara: There were so many OMG moments this episode. The big one for me was the big one for Eve, of course. Raymond is such a well-played character, you love to hate him. But, seeing Eve finally pushed to the absolute furthest from who we knew her as in the beginning was such a shock, even SHE was in shock. But, of course, the show left us with such an OMG….. I think we can assume Eve will make it, but where will she go now? Who knows what will happen if she tries to go back to Niko, and we have no idea where she stands with MI6.

Christie: The end. OH MY GOD the end. Not because we have to worry whether Eve is OK, but knowing Villanelle’s past, what will she do to everyone Eve cares about?

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Cara: A cliffhanger! Bring on season 3! In the interim,  I think I’ll go read the books the series is based on.

Christie: This season was a bit uneven for me, but it went out with a bang (Ha!), and I don’t want to wait until next year!

Killing Eve will return for season 3 with Suzanne Heathcote as showrunner. Want to know more about the show? Check out our Killing Eve section.

Cara spends way too much time thinking about subtext, and the puns are always intended. When not watching TV, she can generally be found with her nose in a book.
