When Calls the Heart Recap: “Disputing Hearts”

By  |

Last night’s new episode of When Calls the Heart had some of the townsfolk nearly at each other’s throats over Henry Gowen striking oil while Rosemary was dealing with a personal issue and Bill trying to decide what to do about the offer made to him to become a judge [among other storylines].

Let’s take a look at what was happening in Hope Valley:

Elizabeth Wants a Library

In addition to her being a passionate teacher, Elizabeth wants to enrich her students as well as all the residents of Hope Valley with a library; but it would seem that the town council isn’t in favor of spending money on a town library. It looks like Elizabeth will be trying to find a good location for the library with the hopes that will help the council determine what kind of costs will be incurred in opening one.

Florence Gets a Job

Meanwhile, Fiona – the telephone operator – is looking for some help, and Florence just might be the ticket. Despite getting off to a very rocky start – she mixed up calls throughout town and ended up spilling her tea all inside the telephone switchboard – by the end of the episode, she seemed to be getting the hang of her very first job. Good for you, Florence.

Making a Lost Connection

As we all know Faith and Carson are embarking on a new relationship, and Carson recently learned that Faith has been estranged from her father for many years. Upon his encouragement, Faith had attempted to write her father a letter, but she just couldn’t find the right words to send to him so Carson took upon himself – with an assist from Fiona – to track down Faith’s father in Hamilton. Luckily, the lost connection between father and daughter didn’t backfire on him, as Faith spoke with her father, and perhaps they will be on the path of reconnecting with each other.

Rosemary’s Health

While Rosemary received a clean bill of health from Carson – in fact, he said she is in perfect health, Rosemary finally said what many have been feeling: something just doesn’t feel right. But what is going on with Rosemary? Carson recommended that Rosemary have a heart-to-heart talk with her husband Lee, but when the time came for her to do so, she didn’t. Why?! What is going on with her and why won’t she talk to Lee?

Striking Oil

As we all saw last week, Henry Gowen bought Jesse’s land because of the surface oil that was discovered after that tremor hit the town. With a secret investment from saloon owner Lucas, Henry started buying up rights to the mineral rights of the land surrounding the property where the oil was first discovered; and, of course, he hit oil. That, naturally, led to some of men getting antsy – seeing dollar signs – and other getting upset because they were losing out making money. Regardless of how this issue turns out, someone is probably going to get hurt, lose money and trouble is going to come to town.

The Trouble with Allie

Last week, Hope Valley was introduced to Constable Nathan Grant’s young, headstrong niece Allie, who created a bit of problem at school, taking her fellow students money and prized possessions through a card trick she learned from Lucas. This time around it was her tendency to work on her own during a group math project in class and remain solitary during recess that was causing some issue. Elizabeth, of course, brought the issue to her uncle’s attention, and he seemed somewhat responsive, and she even tried to encourage Allie to make an effort to make friends, but the little girl didn’t seem to be interested. That is until near the end of the episode when Allie actually helped Opal with a math problem. Maybe the young girl will start to open up a bit more to the other kids at school, and maybe that will in turn get her uncle to open up a bit more and not be so off-pointing to the townspeople.

What do you think is wrong with Rosemary? What kind of outcome do you see happening where Henry’s new petroleum enterprise is concerned? Will Elizabeth be able to get her library and also help Allie? Will Faith repair her relationship with her father? Please share your thoughts on the episode in our comments section below.
