ABC
My Top Picks for May TV
Can you believe that the 2018-2019 TV season will be coming to an end next month? Where has the time gone? There are a LOT of options on the major and cable networks next month, but out of all those programming choices I selected the following as my top picks for May:
RETURNING TO THE LINE-UP
On May 5 and May 6, the Hallmark Channel family drama When Calls the Heart will be back with new episodes at 8 PM after the unexpected hiatus that derailed the show earlier this year.
The 6th season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will get underway starting on May 10 on ABC at 8 PM.
SAYING GOODBYE
The extended series finale (two and ½ hours) of the Freeform fantasy series Shadowhunters will air on May 6 at 8 PM.
The long-anticipated conclusion of the HBO juggernaut Game of Thornes will come to an end on May 19 with an extended series finale (one hour and 20 minutes long) at 9 PM.
WELCOME TO THE BLOCK
The new Starz period piece drama The Spanish Princess will debut on May 5 at 8 PM, focusing on Catherine of Aragon, the strong-willed young Princess of Spain, who has been promised the English throne since she was a child, who – after the suddenly death of her husband Prince Arthur – devises an audacious plan, setting her sights on the new heir, the charismatic and headstrong Prince Harry (Ruairi O’Connor) who will one day rule as King Henry VIII.
On May 21, the two-hour debut of Blood & Treasure will air on CBS at 9 PM, starring Matt Barr (Sleepy Hollow) and Sofia Pernas (The Brave) as a brilliant antiquities expert and a cunning art thief, who team up to catch a ruthless terrorist who funds his attacks through stolen treasure.
MOVIES AND MORE MOVIES
Netflix has almost become synonymous for great YA telefilms and the next one is The Last Summer set to debut on May 3. The focus of the film is on high school graduates who wrestle with love and friendship during their final summer together before heading off to college. The film stars KJ Apa from Riverdale, Maia Mitchell from Good Trouble and The Fosters, Jacob Latimore from The Chi and Halston Sage from The Orville as well as Tyler Posey (Teen Wolf), Gabrielle Anwar (Burn Notice) and Ed Quinn (Eureka).
The 2014 movie The One I Wrote For You will make its small screen debut on UP TV on May 4 at 7 PM. The film stars Cheyenne Jackson (30 Rock) as Ben Cantor, a coffee shop barista and family man who decides to rekindle his dream to make it big as a musician by competing in a reality TV show for songwriters.
Meanwhile, on May 31, the 2017 movie The Healer will debut on UP TV at 7 PM. Oliver Jackson-Cohen from Emerald City and The Haunting of Hill House stars as a young man who discovers that he is the next in a long line of men in his family who have the power to heal. Trying to understand it and the new reality that it offers, a teenage girl with terminal cancer unexpectedly shows him the way.
And, of course, the Hallmark Channel will have a new set of films saluting their Countdown to Summer airing during the month:
May 4 at 9 PM – Paris, Wine and Romance, starring Jen Lilley and Dan Jeannotte (Good Witch)
May 11 at 9 PM – A Feeling of Home, starring Jonna Walsh from Baby Daddy and Nathan Parsons from Roswell, New Mexico.
May 18 at 9 PM – Sailing Into Love, starring Leah Renee from Hallmark Channel’s Love by the Book and Chris McNally from When Calls the Heart.
May 25 at 9 PM – Love in the Sun, starring Emeraude Toubia from Shadowhunters and Tom Maden from Famous in Love.
Make sure to check out our May TV calendar, which will be going live this weekend, and let us know what you are looking forward to watching next month.
