THE ROOKIE Roundtable: The Checklist
The Rookie was back with a new episode this week, focusing on:
Sergeant Gray informs the rookies that they must track down a specific set of crimes in a 48-hour period in order to qualify for their final exam. Meanwhile, Officer Nolan and Officer Bishop answer a silent alarm call at will.i.am’s house.
Let’s dig into the episode with our new feature SASSY: S(tupid), A(wesome), S(o) S(o) and Y(our Thoughts):
STUPID
Roz: West West West! How can I solve a problem like you? I both do and don’t understand your motivation and its affects are not at all what you wanted to be in a cop. Be better, man!
Leah: What the ever loving heck is going on with West? How has he made it this far? Are we really to believe that a rookie would have THIS much leeway? I don’t give a crap who his dad is – this is not the job for him.
Rueben: OMG, yes! West is just screwed up and I’m sick of him to say the least. His final act of nearly hitting that poor woman and her baby was the last straw. He needs to get his act together or the next time he won’t stop in time.
AWESOME
Roz: I love Nolan’s speeches this week – both to Chen and West and his best friend. He has so much wisdom for someone in this job late in life and while it often doesn’t go as he plans (running into the Chief’s office is a horrible idea Nolan!) he means to do so much with what he had given of himself to Los Angeles.
Leah: The Nolan character is really great. West could learn something from him. This is a man who is actually “destined” to be a cop. I agree with Roz and Rueben – the speeches were great! I like that Bradford watches out for Chen in a non-creepy, I want to be with you way. It plays out like an actual possible friendship.
Rueben: Nolan really did a great job in this episode with all of his speeches, didn’t he? He might have been a bit out of line in rushing into the Chief’s office to speak on Bishop’s behalf, but you’ve got to give him credit for standing up for her no matter what. Also, how about Bradford stepping up to make sure that Chen got her boxes checked was pretty good. Sure it was because he didn’t want it on his record that a rookie of his failed, but at least he was doing right by her.
SO SO
Roz: For the love of all that is good and Holy Bishop don’t take this IA job. It will only end badly for you and everyone you know.
Rueben: Yeah, Roz, I have to agree that I don’t want Bishop to take that IA job. I know she wants to keep her job, but basically being a rat within her own station is not the way to go.
Leah: No!!!!! Bishop not the way to stay with the force! IA is a necessary job in real life, but on TV shows those people are obnoxious and self righteous.
YOUR THOUGHTS
Roz: I can’t believe we’re already at the penultimate episode of the season. It’s gone so quickly!
Leah: I haven’t loved every moment, but this show has had some great guest starts over the season and I can see it getting better as we have gone along. Can’t wait to see how they end the season next week
Rueben: It’s been a bit of a rocky road for the show with a few really great, stand-out episodes but a few too many that weren’t so great. I want to hope that next week’s finale will knock it out of the park otherwise we can’t look forward to anything more from the show, as – based on ratings – it just might not have a future. I hate to think about that as I LOVE Nathan, but the show hasn’t been stellar.
