When Calls the Heart Recap: “A Vote of Confidence”

By  |

The third episode of the 6th season of When Calls the Heart aired on the Hallmark Channel last night.

Here is the synopsis for the episode:

Bill convinces an estranged friend to help catch criminals, Abigail and Lucas face off about the saloon’s disruption to town and Faith and Carson consider revealing their relationship.

Bill on the Warpath

Bill left for Cape Fullerton at the opening of the episode in order to testify in the case against the gunrunners who Jack had helped bring to justice only to find out that the Judge was threatened into letting those dangerous men go free.

In order to uphold the law and bring those criminals back before they could disappear into the Northern Territory, Bill sought out the help of an old friend named Jeremiah who had helped the Mounties as a wilderness guide for many years. It wasn’t the happiest of reunions, but Jeremiah finally agreed to help led Bill through an abandoned mine he had only ever heard about in stories told by his late father.

As luck would have it, Bill and Jeremiah made it through the long-abandoned mine and found the criminals. The only problem was Bill attempted to take the two men on his own, telling Jeremiah that he didn’t need his help, only to quickly learn that they had another “associate” with them. Thankfully, Jeremiah didn’t listen to Bill and knocked the “associate” out, and they were able to arrest all three of them.

Standing Up For Yourself

As we’ve seen before, young Timmy has been trying very hard to keep pace with older boys Cody and Robert. He mastered riding a bicycle and in this episode he wanted very much to play pirates with them, but they kept relegating him to simply splashing water at them. That changed when he presented the boys with a real legitimate spyglass. He was invited onto their pretend boat to play pirate, but as they headed home for the day, Timmy’s spyglass went missing.

Instead of Cody and Robert helping Timmy find the missing object, they headed home, leaving Timmy on his own to find the spyglass. That is until Elizabeth found him looking for it on his own. She told him that “friendship is a two-way street.” If they were really his friends, they would be helping him in the search, and perhaps he needed to stand up to them more.

In turn, Timmy did just that – he told them that if their baseball had been lost he would be helping them find it and that they should do the same in return for him. At the end of the episode, the boys had enlisted all of the other school children to search for spyglass.

Abigail on the Warpath

It was only a matter of time before the townspeople began to complain about Lucas, the new saloon owner, especially given the fact that his establishment was drawing quite the crowd, creating a lot of noise and provocative music playing much too loudly late into the night.

Despite Abigail’s polite approach and request to Lucas to keep the noise down, it only seemed to get worse. So in true Abigail fashion – instead of going on the warpath – she called his bluff. She put the law on her side, getting the town council – of which Lee and Elizabeth were both members – to vote on a new ordinance that all businesses had to close at 10 PM.

This was a well-laid out plan of Abigail’s to show Lucas that while the town “takes care of our own,” he would need to compromise, and in the end he did. The council was split down the middle on the ordinance and Abigail’s vote would break the tie. Instead of voting to hinder the business at the saloon, she asked Lucas to agree to only being open late two nights a week, and he relented. I have to wonder, however, how long that compromise will stick.

A New Relationship

Since the premiere episode, Rosemary has been doing all she can to make Faith and Carson a couple, and while it is sweet to see a new, budding relationship in Hope Valley, I personally think it’s a little forced. But my opinion aside, Carson seemed very open to the idea of them taking a risk on a relationship, but Faith was more uncertain. That decision didn’t deter Carson, however, as he used the ruse of their going on house calls to have a special picnic with Faith, which we didn’t get to see because Faith made him stop the carriage and agree that they should give their relationship a chance. The kisses they shared were, as I said sweet, but we’ll have to see if this relationship can stand the test of time.

Do you like the idea of Faith and Carson becoming a couple? How about Abigail’s bluff with Lucas? Do you think he’ll be a man of his word? What are your thoughts on what Bill did to catch the gunrunners? Please share your thoughts on the episode in our comments section below.
