Women Behind the Scenes Spotlight: Sandra Chwialkowska
Sandra was always interested in screenwriting; in fact, she studied literature and creative writing in college. As she shared in an interview with The TV Junkies, she “worked various jobs in and around writing, but didn’t know how to break through.” One of her first jobs in the entertainment industry was working as a PA on the 2005 movie called The Squid and the Whale as well as various other jobs related to the industry, but she was always writing.
Things changed for her professionally when she took part in the Canadian Film Centre Bell Media Prime Time TV Program, which opened doors for her. She worked as an assistant to the director on Numb3rs in 2006 and in the same job on the 2007 TV movie Manchild.
She followed that up in 2011 by working as a script coordinator and story editor on the Canadian cop drama King and in that same year worked as a writer and script coordinator on the 6-part mini-series The Yard.
The turning point came when Tassie Cameron (Executive Producer/Showrunner on Mary Kills People), gave Sandra her first hour-long credit on Rookie Blue in 2012.
Since then Sandra has worked as a writer and consulting producer on the crime drama Cracked; a consulting producer and writer on the family drama Remedy; an executive story editor, writer and supervising producer on the fan favorite sci-fi series Lost Girl and as a writer on the Netflix drama Between.
Her most recent work has been as a writer and co-executive producer on X Company, a writer and co-executive producer on the Canadian cop drama The Detail and as a co-executive producer and writer on the latest season of the Canadian import Ransom.
Sandra has features and TV series in development with major production companies such as eOne, New Metric Media, Shaftesbury Films and Temple Street Productions.
