WHISKEY CAVALIER Roundtable: Pilot

By  |

This week on Whiskey Cavalier:

Will Chase is assigned to work with Francesca “Frankie” Trowbridge. Together, they lead an inter-agency team of flawed, funny and heroic spies who periodically save the world—and each other—while navigating the rocky roads of friendship, romance and office politics.

Join us as we use our new ratings system known as SASSY – S(tupid), A(wesome), S(o) S(o) and Y(Your Thoughts):

STUPID

Roz: I could deal without that dumb reveal of Ray sleeping with Whiskey’s ex-girlfriend because it’s just a tired trope.

Rueben: I have to agree with Roz that the only stupid/dumb moment for me was the reveal of Ray being involved with Will’s former girlfriend. Really?!

Cay: There were a few silly things, but nothing stupid for me.

Leah: I mean, a few things were obvious, but I don’t think anything was stupid.

AWESOME

Roz: I’m not afraid to admit I love a good break-up song so using “Total Eclipse of the Heart” made me giggle.

Rueben: I thoroughly enjoyed the pilot from start to finish with its mix of silly and serious, action and adventure, goofy moments and the back-and-forth between Frankie and Will. It was all very entertaining.

Cay: I agree with Roz on the soundtrack and I also like the Chuck-esque flipped dynamic of emotional guy and bad ass woman, although obviously Will has plenty of his own skills. The official description we’ve listed above just doesn’t do the show justice!

Leah: I loved this episode. I loved Scott Foley as a softer agent that still got things done and Lauren Cohan as a no nonsense bad ass. The chemistry, setting up the team dynamic. It all worked for me. Pilot episodes are hard to do well and Whiskey Cavalier nailed it. They got it all right.

SO-SO

Roz: Ray is a horrid friend. Whiskey’s boss is even worse.

Rueben: It was a bit of surprise that Will’s boss was a bad guy, and yet not. Sometimes the TV tropes just get a bit old like what Ray did.

Cay: The Ray reveal was just so-so for me.

Leah: I’m not kidding when I say not one time did I think, well that wasn’t great. I liked the entirety of the episode. Even Ray, his character was exactly who he was supposed to be.

YOUR THOUGHTS

Roz: This is both like Cougar Town and not and I’m all for it!

Rueben: As I said before, I was thoroughly entertained throughout the episode and I look forward to more adventures. It’s going to be interesting to see if Frankie can lighten up a little bit more and whether Will can keep his emotions in check. It will also be fun to see how they all work as a team, who will get along, who won’t, how they missions come together, what trouble they’ll find along the way, et al.

Cay: I always love a good spy caper and the leads have good chemistry. Looking forward to plenty of undercover missions and squabbling. It’s been a while since I’ve been this excited about a new show!

Leah: This is a Bill Lawrence produced show. I expect it will be as great as all of his shows. High hopes!
