MANIFEST Roundtable: Estimated Time of Departure
This week on Manifest’s season 1 finale:
Ben (Josh Dallas) and Michaela (Melissa Roxburgh) must confront a dire threat to the passengers’ safety when Griffin (guest star Marc Menchaca) schemes to take the callings public. Meanwhile, tensions between Jared (J.R. Ramirez) and Zeke (guest star Matt Long) reach a boiling point, and Ben, Grace (Athena Karkanis), and Olive (Luna Blaise) make a devastating discovery.
Join us as we use our new ratings system known as SASSY – S(tupid), A(wesome), S(o) S(o) and Y(Your Thoughts):
Stupid:
Roz: Am I really supposed to believe that Saanvi’s friend has been spying on her because she now is seeing The Major as a therapist. Also, Jared is so gross for being in Michaela’s space all the time. She has her own thoughts and actions without Jared.
Rueben: I was really annoyed with Jared throughout this whole episode because he was acting more like a jilted lover than anything else. And that fight with Zeke, c’mon!!
Cay: How is Michaela not more cynical/jaded after being a cop for so many years? She always seems to think the best of people, which seems dumb, if not dangerous in her profession.
Awesome:
Roz: That expiration date matching how long someone was gone is not something I wanted to imagine, but damn does that change things.
Rueben: I totally didn’t see the expiration date coming until it was brought up, and good on Olive for figuring it out especially since she said something to her mom that she knew the answer was right there, but she just couldn’t see it. I also was NOT expecting The Major to be Saanvi’s therapist. That’s clearly a set-up and now I have to wonder if that doctor who was being so nice to Saanvi, given her his therapist’s contact information is actually working for the government.
Cay: I liked that Olive was the one to figure out the date, even if it wasn’t a happy discovery. The idea that everyone who disappeared gets to come back and live life for as long as they were gone is interesting.
So-So:
Roz: Why did we need Grace being pregnant to be announced on the same day as Cal and Olive figure out the day of 828’s second death. Especially if it’s Danny’s kid and not Ben’s.
Rueben: I was grossed out by the whole spewing of water by Griffin, but as soon as he started spitting out the water, I knew the rest was coming and he wasn’t long for the world. A bit too predictable for me.
Cay: While Griffin dying of drowning is appropriate, I could have done without him spewing out more water than his lungs could ever have held in front of a crowd. Grace’s pregnancy with Danny’s baby adds an intriguing complication to Grace and Ben’s relationship. While I think it is a good twist, I’m also loving that they finally seemed to have gotten their relationship together and worry that this will once again come between them.
Your Thoughts:
Roz: I’ll say it again because it’s gross – Jared, why are you trying to take away Michaela’s agency? She is her own damn person.
Rueben: I was a bit irritated with how it ended with the gunshot ringing out just as Michaela walked into her apartment. I’m just hoping that the bullet doesn’t ricochet and hit Michaela. The whole Grace being pregnant with Danny’s baby wasn’t what I was expecting (no pun intended) either, as she and Ben were just getting their relationship back on track and now this.
Cay: I can’t believe that Saanvi’s new therapist is part of the conspiracy! That’s so cruel and wrong. Does this mean the friendly doctor who gave her the card is part of it all as well? If everyone comes back for as long as they were gone, we can assume that Zeke wasn’t fatally shot in the tussle with Jared, but does that mean Jared got shot? I feel it is more likely that Jared was injured or killed.
Manifest hasn’t been renewed yet for season 2, but its odds look relatively good. Stay tuned!
