How to Celebrate Galentine’s Day Like a Nice Girl

By  |

Happy Galentine’s Day, friends! Here at Nice Girls HQ, we’re big fans of this annual holiday honoring our lady friends, some of the most important people in our lives. Originating with Leslie Knope, our patron saint, Galentine’s Day is celebrated on February 13 and is an opportunity for us to tell our female friends how much we appreciate them.

Wondering how to host an awesome Galentine’s Day? We have ideas!

Going Out: As an homage to Sex and the City, get dressed up in your sexy attire, have a fancy dinner at a hot restaurant (with reservations of course) and have some craft cocktails while enjoying being out on the town with your girls.  This type of night ends well at a club or lounge where you can dance the night away!

Staying In: Have a pot-luck dinner at home where you can be in your comfy sweats and binge watch your favorite shows or movies. A Galentine’s Day pot luck party is not complete without ice cream, so indulge in your faves with your fave people. Here are some good Galentine’s Day binge-worthy shows:
  • Outlander (Starz)
  • The Good Place (NBC)
  • Broad City (Comedy Central)
  • Grown-ish (FreeForm)
  • Good Girls (NBC)
  • Insecure (HBO)
  • Dating: No Filter (E!)
  • SMILF (Showtime)
  • Big Little Lies (HBO)
  • You (Lifetime)

Axe It: If you need to let go of a bad relationship or exorcize an ex, get your besties together and go to an ax-throwing event. Nothing like imagining that one ex that broke your while throwing an ax at a big target. Fun and satisfying, to say the least. Holla!

Monogram for my friend JenGo Custom: One year I hosted a Galentine’s Day brunch and made customized candles for each of my guests. I started by designing a monogram for each person in PicMonkey, based on what I knew about their style. (My friend Jen carries a purse that looks like a peppermint candy – her monogram was inspired by that!) I then printed the monograms on vellum and cut them out as close to the monogram as possible. Next, I got fat, 4-inch white candles (unscented) and laid the monogram on the side of the candle. I covered the monogram with a strip of wax paper cut wider than the vellum, then used a hair dryer to melt the wax of the waxed paper and the candle, with the vellum sandwiched in between. I carefully peeled off the wax paper and voila! customized candles! They were a big hit and pretty inexpensive/simple to make.

Make It: In keeping with the “hand made” theme, another fun Galentine’s Day activity is group painting. You can either sign up for a class at a studio or bring the class to your home (a lot of painting studios will do an in-home party). Spending an hour or two with your gals sipping adult beverages and producing a masterpiece leads to some pretty great memories!

Write It: Are you like me? Are your lady friends spread around the country or around the globe? Time to pull out those beautiful notecards you bought while visualizing yourself sitting at a charming writing table wearing a flowing dress and elegantly inscribing witty, heartfelt words to your friends. Write a note to your far-off girlfriends telling them how much you appreciate them. Get creative and silly with your compliments. Run out of time to send a note via snail mail? Text, email, Marco Polo, whatever method you use – shoutout those besties!
