DEADLY CLASS Roundtable: “Saudade”
DEADLY CLASS aired episode five tonight. See what we have to say about the dark coming of age journey.
On a mission to Vegas to kill Billy’s dad, Marcus accidentally takes way too much acid.
The Good
Roz: Vegas in the 80s! I have never been, but do I know all the stories about Circus Circus and all that neon. But to see all of that while tripping on some acid is another thing.
Leah: I didn’t make it to Vegas until the early 2000’s but I can only imagine what it would be like in the 80’s and on drugs. Benjamin aka Marcus did an amazing job portraying that.
Ange: This episode was entertaining, especially Benjamin and his portrayal of a very tripped out Marcus, but it started to feel like a filler ep until things amping up in the last 10 minutes when Chico tracked them down. So glad to see Maria finally stand up to herself against Chico and the way she sliced him with her fan? Damn, girl!
The Bad
Roz: Oh well, there’s about fifty bad things from this episode, but let’s go with the Bizarre Love Triangle that we’ve got. After all that tension eased between Saya and Marcus last week, well, I’m not so happy to see what the acid did to Marcus that allowed he and Maria to have a moment.
Leah: I am now curious has strictly this show will be keeping to the graphic novels. I admit I did a quick Cliff Notes search on them after I watched the first 4 episodes and I am not super excited about some upcoming things I read about….this relates specifically to Maria and Marcus for this episode NO. No. No. No.
Ange: Yeah, I am not here for this love triangle either. Also because Saya is so fierce and independent that she doesn’t strike me as someone who would allow herself to get caught up in that nonsense. I know the show kind of hinted at something between Marcus and Maria in the pilot, but the fact that they’ve been steering more towards Saya and Marcue in recent eps (especially at the end of last week), to have them suddenly jump back on the Marcus and Maria train makes no sense to me and frankly is a little lazy writing. I say this as someone who has no knowledge of the graphic novels by the way.
The Music
Roz: “Our House” is always a classic. Under and overplayed as they talk about relationships is equally genius. But maybe even better is “To Have and to Hold” because, well, yes.
Ange: Yep, I agree on “Our House” always being a classic. Also, “Brother Wolf, Sister Moon” by The Cult as the episode closed worked well.
