Salute to Rising Stars

By  |

It’s that time again to salute those actresses who are on the move, actresses who deserve a little extra attention for their latest work, those actresses who are rising stars. Landing that crucial role in a TV movie or guest appearance in a successful show or film makes all the difference for aspiring actors.

Let’s take a look at the next two actresses who viewers should keep their eye on:

strong>Danielle Rose Russell

Danielle was born and raised in New Jersey, initially pursuing modeling in her youth before getting into regional theatre and appearing in several school plays. She landed her first role in the box office film A Walk Among the Tombstones, starring alongside Liam Neeson and Dan Stevens. She followed that up with a role in the Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone led film Aloha.

She then appeared in the short-lived series The Last Tycoon that starred Kelsey Grammer and Matt Bomer before appearing in the box office films Pandemic, Wonder and Measure of a Man.

She made her way to television, playing Hope Mikaelson in the vampire thriller The Originals and now in the new series Legacies on The CW.

Florence Pugh

The English born actress lived most of her childhood in Spain. She attended the same school as Sir Laurence Olivier, Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington. Her first professional audition was for the role of Abigail in the box office mystery The Falling, starring alongside Game of Thrones alum Maisie Williams. She followed that up with her breakthrough leading role in the independent film Lady Macbeth, which would later earn her the British Independent Film Award for Best Actress.

Last year she appeared alongside Chris Pine in Outlaw King and the AMC mini-series The Little Drummer Girl, starring with Michael Shannon and Alexander Skarsgard.

This year she will be seen in the box office film Fighting with My Family, which is based on a true story, the mystery movie Midsommer with Jack Reynor and the latest adaptation of the classic novel Little Women that includes among its ensemble cast Timothee Chalamet, Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Meryl Streep, Laura Dern, James Norton and Chris Cooper.

Florence sings, writers her own songs and plays both the guitar and piano.
