THE ROOKIE Roundtable: Redwood
The Rookie was back with a new episode this week, which focused on:
An unscheduled visit by the vice president of the United States puts the station on high alert. The secret service tasks Officer Nolan and Officer Bishop with checking out a possible threat to the vice president while the rest of the team try to keep the streets clear and safe for his visit.
Let’s dig into the episode with our new feature SASSY: S(tupid), A(wesome), S(o) S(o) and Y(our Thoughts):
STUPID
Roz: Oh West! What is it with that family drama? I totally understand the issue of kidney issues and family, but to shoulder that burden for so long is not healthy or productive. I suppose it’s not his fault, but it’s still an untenable position to be in.
Rueben: There was a LOT going on in this episode, that’s for sure. The gun buyback really had nothing else to do with the rest of the storyline and that dumbass with the ill mother, tying her hands to her wheelchair. Really?!! I was my mother’s caregiver and I would’ve NEVER done that to her.
AWESOME
Roz: The group of TOs and Boots worked so well together in the face of a daunting job of protecting the VP. To see Chen face her potential illness with that dirty needle and West and his vest and Nolan just running around the team shown was something we hadn’t seen, but something we needed to see. It’s still a team, but they are all individuals with issues and their own personal drama.
Rueben: I agree with Roz. The TOs and Boots really did perform well with all of the craziness that went down especially dealing with all that happened after with the store robbery and Chen dealing with that sister who was going to poison her brother. Holy crap!
SO SO
Roz: I could have done without that opening gun-buy back; not that buy-backs are bad, but it had nothing to do with the rest of the episode.
Rueben: The secret service woman pushing the issue that Lopez and West had to stay put while the VP got a sandwich and then she had the audacity to bitch at Grey about their leaving their posts to help out Bishop and Nolan who were in dire need of back-up. Good on Grey to put the secret service woman in her place. But, it was still so-so for me.
YOUR THOUGHTS
Roz: That doorjam at the end was a nice little moment of happiness after so much awkwardness of their day.
Rueben: Yes, Roz. I really liked that little moment of levity given all that took place that day. I also liked Nolan’s reaction to the woman bringing in claymores to the buyback. He handled it so calmly despite it being such an intense situation even though that woman had NO idea.
