My Top Must Watch List for January
While we have the holidays to look forward to over the next couple of weeks, we also have a lot of TV to be anxious to see throughout January.
There are a lot of winter premieres of returning dramas set to air throughout January, but the shows I am most eager to see back on the air with new episodes include:
New Amsterdam on NBC on January 8 at 10 PM
Blindspot on NBC at 8 PM
This Is Us on NBC on January 15 at 9 PM
A Million Little Things on ABC on January 17 at 9 PM
There are also a handful of dramas coming back with new seasons in January, and of those I am anxious to see the following:
The Blacklist on NBC on January 3 at 10 PM
The Magicians on Syfy on January 23 at 9 PM
Strike Back on Cinemax on January 25 at 10 PM
Of the 9 new dramas set to debut in January, I am most excited about the Sundance Now drama A Discovery of Witches, based on the best-selling novel by Deborah Harkness, which will debut online on January 17.
A modern-day love story is set against the backdrop of Oxford academic life, following historian Diana Bishop (Teresa Palmer), a reluctant witch denying her heritage, who accidently discovers a long-lost bewitched manuscript in Oxford’s Bodleian Library, and is immediately thrown into the heart of a dangerous underworld. On her journey, she finds herself tossed into the path of enigmatic vampire and geneticist, Matthew Clairmont (Matthew Goode), who hides a dark family secret.
NOTE: I had the opportunity to screen the episodes last month, but I can’t write anything about the show until next month.

And lastly, there is the annual Doctor Who special that will actually air on New Year’s Day [rather than on Christmas Day as in years past]. The 90-minute special will air on January 1 at 8 PM on BBC America. The special finds a terrifying evil stirring from across the centuries of Earth’s history; and it’s a question of whether the Doctor, Ryan, Graham and Yaz will be able to overcome this threat to Planet Earth or not.
Make sure to check out our January TV calendar which will be published closer to the end of the month, letting us know what you are most anxious to watch next month.
