VIDEO! Gretchen Mol & David Ajala Describe the Horror of Syfy’s Nightflyers

By  |

Nighflyers is based on a novella by George RR Martin and is set in the year 2093. This chilling psychological series follows a team of scientists who are on a journey to discover other life forms which may help save their own dying planet.

David Ajala portrays the reclusive Nightflyer captain Roy Eris. Roy is the  head of the powerful Eris Corporation, and has a HUGE quirk! Thus far his only interaction with the crew is via a variety of technical interfaces. It is believed that he resides on his own private deck somewhere on the ship.

“You can’t escape.”

On the subject of horror David Ajala describes it as being several different levels. “There’s the gorish horror of blood and guts. There’s claustrophobia which is a horror in itself. And, there’s the internal horror. Psychological horror. What our show does really well is introduce different layers of horror and how these characters respond to it.” 1.53

“Where we wind up headed toward is (a) position of survival and how their primal instincts kick in. That’s what really becomes the catalyst of horror. Because you can’t escape.” 2.20 Each character is dealing with their own personal demons.

Gretchen Mol is Dr. Agatha Matheson a brilliant psychiatrist who is chosen for the mission because of her expertise in working with L-1 telepaths. Despite her personal fears about space travel Agatha takes the assignment in order to protect one of her L-1 patients from the misgivings for the Nighflyers crew. She expanded David’s thought on what’s to come by adding “Everything is getting magnified. The further away from Earth we get, the more that energy is affecting everyone on the ship.” The fears and the paranoia begin to run wild. 3.13
