9-1-1: Merry Ex-Mas (Recap)

By  |

Christmas was in the air this week on 9-1-1

Chimney and Buck bring a Christmas tree to Maddie, but she surprises them when she rejects the gift. She isn’t feeling the holiday spirit, and she and Buck end up arguing about her lack of Christmas cheer. Later we find out that she has a lot of bad memories attached to Christmas, and Christmas was the day she decided to leave her abusive ex.Diaz and his ex are still seeing each other, but when he makes her hide from their son, she pushes to be back in her son’s life. But when he learns that his son’s Christmas wish is for his mom to come home, Diaz is forced to make some decisions. Finally Santa delivers and mama is there on Christmas morning.

Athena suggest that Bobby move in, and his response isn’t what she had hoped for. Her ex helps her get some perspective on his reluctance, and Bobby reflects on why he was so unsettled by her request. After some soul search, Bobby surprises everyone by popping the question, and the whole crew is happy for them.

At the end of the episode Chimney goes to see Maddie with a different kind of Christmas tradition, and this time she explains a little about why Christmas is so hard for her. At the end we learn that the seeming guardian angel who’s been helping Chimney is really Maddie’s ex, and now he knows where she is. It looks like the ugly ex might rear his head when 9-1-1 returns in the spring.

Everyone appears to be in a good place as we head into the winter hiatus, but there’s definitely trouble on the horizon with Maddie’s ex stalking her.

9-1-1 will return in March 2019. Season 2 is streaming now.

Cara spends way too much time thinking about subtext, and the puns are always intended. When not watching TV, she can generally be found with her nose in a book.
