THE GIFTED: “eMergence”

By  |

The Gifted came back to our lives the other day, and well, nothing’s ever simple for mutants and their friends. Who can forget last season’s finale? We can’t, but that doesn’t mean we’re all ready for the new levels of out there with all these mutants.

Let’s dig into the episode with a new feature: S(tupid), A(wesome), S(o) S(o).

Stupid

Roz: Andy’s new hair! WHY ANDY WHY? Also, Blink (Jamie Chung) and John (Blair Redford)? That’s not what I imagined after all their drama from last season.

Leah: Right? What is with the hair???? I get this season is about factions doing their thing their way but I don’t like the splitting up. I want a cohesive team against evil.

Rueben: It’s a three-peat. What in the hell is the deal with Andy’s hair? Sure, it’s more in line with Lauren’s hair, but why? UGH!!

Lisa: OMG! It’s a four-peat if that’s even a thing. I’m not a fan of the hair at all. I agree with Leah, I want the team back together.

Karen: Agreed. Hair bad. We are unanimous. We knew they were separated at the end of last season, so I assumed it would be a couple of episodes before we got them back together, so I’m just gonna hang in there.

Cay: Why, Andy, why?? (I swear that was my first thought when I saw him, apparently Roz and I have a mind meld!) First, you ditch your family, then you bleach your hair? You are not Draco Malfoy, come off it!

Awesome

Roz: The Cuckoos with the line, “well-behaved women rarely make history” because that is my favorite line of all women getting ish done in this world. Really anytime those girls are doing something so wrong I want to scream, but for some good(ish) reason, I marvel.

Leah: I’m going to give my awesome to the continued amazing special effects that go into making this show. Some of the best on TV, hands down.

Rueben: How awesome was Caitlin facing down Wired, kicking him to get that gun, taking that grazed bullet and then stitching herself up. How crap! Unlike Roz, though, I am happy that John and Clarice are together, as I was hoping for that in the end.

Cay: SO HAPPY to have Amy Acker back on my TV! Also love her badassery so far. We know Amy can pull it off from Person of Interest and I’ve been waiting to see Caitlin really step up.

Lisa: My awesome was Reeva! I was so excited to see Grace Byers (Anika from Empire) take on this role and she kicks ass! I loved all the girl power this episode.

Karen: I agree with Leah about the SFX. This isn’t a “big” show, so to see the care with which they take in each episode, I really enjoy that. It means they are invested. Acting is pretty great too. I thought learning a little more about how Blink’s eyes work was pretty cool too. I’m actually super interested in seeing Reed “re-emerge”.

So So

Roz: Wired and his desire for money to find Andy, Lorna and the Cuckoos. Pissing off Caitlin (Amy Acker) is a very bad idea.

Leah: Oh this is why I need to get my answers in first – otherwise I just say, “What Roz said.”

Rueben: I’m not sure how I feel about Reed’s power manifesting itself. What can he do since he’s a Von Strucker? It could be frightening, you know, but the scene of his arm transforming was a bit lackluster for me.

Lisa: I feel you Leah! I’m on the “what Roz said.” train as well.

Karen: Same here, and the whole hospital stuff was okay, but just that… okay. Please, let’s use Amy Acker better in Season Two, right?

Cay: While I appreciate the rationale for separating Andy from his family, I don’t like it. I also feel like his relationship with Polaris is a bit creepy. Speaking of, the whole “she can’t have the baby because it’s a mental thing” was lame, and medically implausible. Not sure even a mutant can will their cervix to dilate… just sayin’.

Burning Questions

Roz: Little Dawn has to have a power, right?

Leah: Do you suppose we will be split into two groups all season?

Rueben: Did the Frost Sisters have to shoot all those people on the board of the Hellfire Club? Was that really necessary?

Roz: Yes, they did. The other woman needed them and only them before getting Andy and Lorna. The Cuckoos are not sane, so I’m not shocked they murder.

Rueben: I get that they did. It was just so senseless. They certainly lived up to The Cuckoos moniker with that act.

Lisa: What power is Reed going to have? What is the deal with that arm? Can we please have Eclipse see his baby? I hate that he missed the birth of his child. I felt so bad for him during the parking lot scene.

Karen: Hells yeah Dawn will have power. And it’s gonna be epic. I don’t think we’ll be split up all season, but how long will it last? Who knows. I’m feeling Eclipse too. What great acting. More from him please. And MORE AMY ACKER GOODNESS. Oh wait… I’ll take ANY Amy Acker goodness.

Cay: Has Andy really gone completely over to the dark side? What was up with Lauren’s dream? Why is Reed getting his powers back now?

The Gifted airs Tuesdays at 8PM on Fox.

Roz lives in the Los Angeles area, and has been a long time California girl. Despite her better judgment, she enjoys shows about the shallow sides of her home city, but will also find time to watch iZombie, Jane the Virgin, and much more. With a love of history, she also watches anything that is grounded in real life, including Victoria and black-ish. Having worked with children, she also follows shows she knows they watch (reminding her of those days of yore for her in the process). Contact her at roz@nicegirlstv.com.
